hosting open multimedia library safely

i have a collection of media i want to share on a request basis, i.e give specific people access to the full collection on request, but i’ve never hosted any service open to the wider net, so i’m quite wary of any potential risks, mainly getting a letter from my isp for uncommon data usage or opening my network to any...

cannis,

mostly yes, due to the topic and where the link will be shared i can’t imagine there’ll be any intentional bad actors, though there’s always a chance. jellyfin would be perfect, but one of the most important collections is a series of periodicals/magazines that afaik aren’t supported natively or by any plugin.

cannis,

i love jellyfin, only thing holding me back from using it for this project is that it’s very focused on video, and a huge part of the content i wanna share is text-based

cannis,

good idea, i’ll check them out

scribd download

does anyone know what version of the scribd app stored downloaded files in an accessable format on android? i’ve seen references to people managing to get the files from older versions, but i don’t know how far to go to be able to get that. please don’t suggest online scribd downloaders, 99% don’t work and the one that...

cannis,

doesn’t seem to have any reference to a limit, so as long as you have an account with access to the books/docs you should be able to download them

cannis,

you’re welcome, also leaving it here in case anyone needs to download something and don’t have a premium account or trial:

this (scribd.vpdfs.com) is the only site downloader that worked for me: it says that book and audiobook downloads are only available to beta testers, but when you input a book link it gives you the option of downloading the pdf or epub through zoboko.

not sure if it works for all files, and the formatting was a bit off when i tried it, but the content is all there.

tool like bazarr for dubs/multi-language audio

is there a tool like bazarr for automatically getting dub audios of movies/series in other languages? i’d like to share my jellyfin library with some relatives, but they struggle to read subtitles/generally prefer dubs in our language, and so far i’ve been unable to find any tool to make the process easier. thanks in advance

cannis,

definitely easier, but then wouldn’t i end up with two copies of every movie i wanna share?
