This is great, I never knew I needed something like this! One problem I noticed though is that if you have the top bar enabled (the one that shows the list of random magazines), it shows up in the top of the notifications panel.

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Sweet, thanks for the quick fix!

releasing 5 updates in an hour lmao

Just say you're doing Agile development lmao

Where's the waffle iron guy from r/mechanicalkeyboards when we need him most?

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

It'd be fun to have a random kbird generator like those monkey NFTs, but for free (of course)

We need an autotldr bot for the fediverse, but apparently it uses smmry, that could be used until someone makes a bot

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

It's something that you wouldn't have seen unless you created a magazine (or community). In the magazine settings, there's a tab to view statistics like the number of posts, comments, and votes made per day. Before the update, all of the graphs were in Polish, so they were impossible to interpret without google translate. But now, they're properly translated into the language that you use

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Sweet, looking forward to it!

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

A lot of avatar photos are broken for me, same with a lot of the thumbnails and magazine icons. Something weird must be going on

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I absolutely love the new Tokyo Night theme.

Same, I've been rocking it since the update!

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Emojis are part of how people speak online, I always found it weird how big a deal people made out of people using them on Reddit

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Kibby's winning by a lot right now, but I hope Bink wins! I really like that name

I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future. (kbin.social)

So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....

@artillect@kbin.social avatar

These look incredible! Would you mind making one for /m/enhancement? I think it'd be the perfect logo for the userscript we've been working on (right now we're calling it kbin Enhancement Suite), we haven't released it just yet but we're hoping to follow in the footsteps of RES

Could you release the 3D model for just a "stock" folder icon so others can make their own modifications?

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I also really like Bink. It's short, simple, and it's really cute

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

That's a great idea! I've kept adding reddit to my queries (because it works), but I need to change that

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Boosting is like retweeting, it doesn't make sense for it to be private.

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

If you follow someone on kbin, and they boost a thread, it'll show up in your feed. It's sorta like crossposting to your user page on reddit

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Boosting is only available on kbin

The album Spendor and Misery by Clipping is awesome, it's an industrial hip-hop sci-fi concept album about a colony ship (I think?). The Breach and Wake Up are my favorites from it. Their EP The Deep is also pretty good, it's about an underwater society made up of the descendants of people who were pushed off of slave ships rising up to take the surface world back.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, there's Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer (although the sci-fi themes are a bit less out in the open). Her other albums take some inspiration from sci-fi as well

Edit: Oh, and how could I forget Knights of Cydonia by Muse

What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful (kbin.social)

At first it was all about presenting data in an original looking way. In the end it was about pushing political ideas in your throat using a plain bar graph. It was not about sharing something interesting you found but about taking advantage of a captive audience.

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

/r/mapporn is another one that has gone down the spiral, it has a lot of the same problems as /r/dataisbeautiful.

I think the one that frustrated me the most was /r/data_irl, where about half the people in there take the sub's name literally for some reason and think it's for actual data in real life, and not a data version of /r/me_irl

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Half life is another one of those series like Portal that I feel like everyone is required to play at some point

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Hades, which is also made by Supergiant, is also fantastic. It's a great intro to the roguelite genre. I've also heard that their first game, Bastion, is great too, but I haven't played it

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Oh god I cannot imagine playing it in VR, it's already scary enough on a normal screen

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Reddit allowed you to see the exact number of upvotes and downvotes until 2014, and it had a similar effect to how it is over here. It feels great to have them back!

I'm glad to see you've been enjoying /m/kbinStyles! It's been really cool seeing all of the cool enhancements people have made over the past couple weeks since I created it. @shazbot and I (mostly shazbot) have been working on something that'll make all of this customization a whole lot simpler. It's still very much a work in progress, but I think it's turning out great, so make sure you keep an eye out for that!

Previous passengers recall ill-fated Titan: 'I 100% knew this was going to happen' (apnews.com)

Talk to someone who went on previous trips on the Titan submersible and they’re likely to mention a technology glitch. The propulsion system failed or the communications with people on the surface cut out. They are also likely to mention Stockton Rush. He's the OceanGate Expeditions CEO who died this week on the sub. Rush has...

Huh, I didn't even know carbon fiber had a shelf life, I figured it'd be pretty stable over time.

Here's the reason why, in case anyone's curious (I know I was):

Fabrics and prepregs also degrade gradually over time. In composite laminates it is not the fiberglass, carbon fiber or Kevlar fibers themselves that initially degrade. It is the sizing or fiber primer however that degrades over time. Sizings are placed upon the fibers to make them more compatible with a given resin system during cure. As time goes on fiber sizings diminish, weakening the future link between the fabric and the resin, thus yielding a possibly weaker composite laminate.

The exact storage life of most sized fabrics is not always listed on a technical data sheet. Often one may need to research further into a manufacturer’s technical manuals for an expected shelf life of a fabric sizing. Fiber sizing life can range from a year to beyond five when stored under favorable conditions. For prepreg materials a general shelf life is first a year. After a year or after initial expiration some fabrics and prepregs may be re-tested for performance against its original stated performance specifications and bonding characteristics. In the case of a DIY project possibly using expired fabrics it is important to test a laminated section of the expired fabric to ensure its quality is up to par for its intended use.

I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

So we can already boost meaningful content, and report irrelevant content! Nice! And then for personal takes, we could continue using up/downvotes.

I think that's a great way to think about it, it almost makes me think the comments should stay sorted by the number of boosts

artillect, (edited )
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

You can do strikethrough text ~~like this~~

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I made a userscript that allows you to collapse comments, that should help you out until it's added to the site officially

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

That's because I put that in a code block with backticks (`), here's what it looks like normally testing

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I'm using kbin.social on desktop and it shows up fine for me, not sure what's going on on your instance

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I just threw this script together for you, let me know if you run into any issues using it

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I believe the Userscripts app should work in PWAs but I might be completely wrong since I haven't used it (I'm still on iOS 14)

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Try updating to 1.0.1, I think I fixed the issue

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Here's a jan Misali video that's somewhat relevant to your second paragraph

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

kbin has an API (docs here), but it isn't working right now

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I just released an update with a bunch of improvements for mobile, now you can collapse comments by tapping anywhere on them! (It shouldn't interfere with any of the buttons aside from the language dropdown, but let me know if it does)

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

I just released another update, you should be able to highlight text without the comment collapsing for now. I've also added an option to toggle collapsing comments by clicking anywhere on them, you can access it by clicking your username in the top right, then go to "Userscript Settings" and the option should be there

artillect,
@artillect@kbin.social avatar

Try updating to 1.3.5, it should be back!
