Do you ever think about abandoned tech trees? Like how no one is working to design better drafting compasses or vellum? No one is perfecting vacuum tubes. No one is laser focused on methods to speed paint and accurate portrait by hand to send out for marriage proposals.

Technological leaps make entire areas of research pointless— but

What if just a bit further down the line on the old tech tree there was some bigger breakthrough we’ll never see? I think about this A LOT.

@futurebird Vacuum tubes were pretty amazing when the audio industry switched to solid state. With the exception of a true discrete circuit in recording consoles, it was a step back. Instead of harmonic distortion -- which is musical -- it became clipping -- which is not.

The lengths some women will go to frame sex work as "feminist" is pretty astounding.

Farming out your body to escape poverty isn't the same as having bodily autonomy.

@AnnemarieBridy @genxjamerican Isn't it curious that so many of the historically significant 78 rpm recordings were of Black artists being exploited by new arrivals to the country?

Maybe these folks can slow their roll a little bit. After generations of this stuff, they've earned a breather.

Let's not pretend all the original artists in this collection were properly compensated for their intellectual property.
