Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

Every single Speaker makes this speech - including Andrew Scheer himself.

No reason to expect this one to suddenly have an impact.

Caves really are the worst, though.

What did he say about what he thinks of the strikes?

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

He’s responding to claims that the company has benefited the company, which is well within the realm of what a CEO would be expected to talk about.

The ony thing that approaches an opinion about the strike is the statement that he wants to resolve it soon, which…horror!

As far as I’m aware neither he nor anyone from Paramount are part of the negotiating committee.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

That’s true, he could. But I’ve seen no evidence that he’s actively fighting the union’s demands unlike Iger, Zaslav, and Sarandos. I’d love to see evidence to the contrary if it exists, though.

Polygon - Dylan Roth - Unscored

Developed by Nimble Giant Entertainment (the 2016 Masters of Orion remake) and published by Paradox Interactive (Crusader Kings, Stellaris), Star Trek: Infinite is a 4X grand strategy game that shares a lot of qualities with a good Star Trek episode: It’s cerebral, accessible, occasionally a little clumsy, and overall a good time.

Excluded from the deal are Canada, where Prodigy is carried by CTV.ca and the CTV App, and in SkyShowtime’s European territories: the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe.

I saw this article first, but startrek.com has an announcement with a couple of brief quotes:

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”

“I’ve always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world. They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again,” said Kate Mulgrew, voice of Admiral Janeway.

I was actually linking to it as you sent this!

Jeeze, I wasn’t even aware that Gem had a paid tier…

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

…because they saved Prodigy?

Paramount+, the streamer, cancelled it.

CBS Studios, the producer, kept it going and found a new buyer.

Two separate entities, even though they’re both subsidiaries of the same parent company.

Netflix is just picking it up to stream on their service.

Just as a TV network “cancels” a series by deciding not to order/air it, Netflix could do the same. Theoretically.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

It’s a little clear, but I think there’s a chance it will show up on CTV Sci-Fi. We’ll have to see.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

To be clear, I was being completely hypothetical. It makes no sense for Netflix to cancel something they literally just bought.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

The pendulum seems to be swinging back toward that model, at least in some cases.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

By pretty much all accounts, Netflix cancelled it.

I already knew this was a national tragedy, but this is puts it over the top.

It looks like there might be an Okudagram in “The Wounded” that refers to Cardassian ships having disruptors.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Yeah, Paramount’s CEO, Bob Bakish, seems to have largely sat the strikes out, only popping up in the news once or twice to say he wanted to see them resolved. It’s interesting.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Well, with the panel being under the “Star Trek Universe” banner instead of Paramount+, there might be an opportunity for Prodigy content. I won’t hold my breath, though.

Personally, I’d like to see some release dates.

What’s the status of the opposition in SK? Will they be able to make hay out of all this?

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Military procurement is ridiculously expensive, but…we need these damn ships.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Research or not it is Coast Guard, which is…well, military-adjacent, at least.

There are sometimes more books available at the lowest prices through Amazon Kindle and Kobo.

It’s definitely worth checking the ebook retailer of your choice - AFAIK, they all tend to run this montly sale.

The CPC started going a little too far right, and they got voted out.

I wish I agreed that this was an accurate description of the election - the PCs were projected to lose before they took the hard right turn, and then their final turnout was arguably higher than projected.

Anyone know the singer for the Klingon portion of 'We Are One'?

I know that the utterly incomparable Bruce Horak came back not as Hemmer but as the Klingon for this episode. However the singer, was that Bruce too? If so then I’m genuinely shocked. I thought for sure that it was Weird Al. It sounds almost identical. If it’s not Weird Al himself then it’s a pitch perfect double....

I’m just saying it may not have had anything to do with the late-campaign pivot, which is the topic of this article.
