The 35 Best Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time, Ranked - Read the article, then argue (www.cinemablend.com)

Science fiction is quite simply one of the most popular genres of film that we have. The creation of faraway places and futuristic technology seems to be exactly what the medium of film was designed to create. Sci-fi on film has been around for as long as there have been movies. But which ones are the best? Figuring that out is...

Logitech Now Goes To A random website in order to add peripherals to a PC (kbin.social)

As if it wasn’t bad enough that they want me to use a random internet service to add a keyboard to a usb wifi receiver, they are also stopping Firefox users from accessing it. I clicked out of pure curiosity, as I’m not even remotely interested in involving a corporate internet service in getting my keyboard connected to my...

Hopes Dashed As LK-99 Confirmed Not To Be A Room-Temperature Superconductor (www.iflscience.com)

After a few intense weeks of speculation and drama, more and more labs have been able to recreate LK-99, also known as modified lead-apatite. The material was touted as the first-ever room-temperature ambient pressure superconductor, a claim that was met with healthy skepticism and excitement. After all, extraordinary claims...

BoCanCan,

This will probably be the outcome but it’s way too early to be making this claim as fact. The article references one lab in China that found no SC. Meanwhile there’s a different lab in China claiming that there is SC.

The material is non-uniform and different crystal structures within the material are expected to have vastly different properties. The original paper was (suspiciously) vague about exactly how to create the material and different labs are following different steps to synthesize it. So it’s expected that they may get different results.

The original samples that inspired the paper have been sent to other labs for testing, those results should give us the final answer.

Indeed, this kind of reaction has driven me to unsubscribe from the specifically LK-99-related subreddits and forums that have cropped up. "These guys tried reproing it, and they failed, so that's it, game over. We can forget all about this stuff now." Or even worse, "this one guy made a deliberately fraudulent video, so all of the news about LK-99 can be dismissed as fake now."

This is exactly the inverse of what skeptics keep cautioning against. There are plenty of ways to fail to make superconductors, finding a new one of those doesn't tell us much. All it takes is for one lab to figure out a reliable way to make them and all the failures in the world can't overcome that.

Patience.

@MrNiNeRjOsHuA I wish Mozilla would decouple Pocket from Firefox too and make it an optional extension in general.

Disgustoid,

I didn’t know Firefox and Pocket were linked, having just switched over to Firefox after Google’s antics.

I used Pocket all the time on Android when I had a commute via public transit and would save longer articles I found to read during the ride. Looking at the articles I have saved, my use has definitely dropped since I started working primarily from home though.

CaptObvious,

Good riddance? Now I want to run Mac Firefox on my iDevices just to be rid of Pocket.

(Before anyone jumps in, yes I know it won’t work. But a guy can dream.)

How do I know which instances kbin is/is NOT Federated With? (artemis.camp)

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a way to know if kbin is or is not federated with another instance? I know there is a way to block domains by typing in https://your kbin instance/d/domain you want to block and blocking them from there, but is there a way to see a list of instances defederated by default?...

EvilMonkeySlayer,

Eh, I mean they probably did it because of russian government pressure but ultimately I've seen a lot of russian opposition media hold what are questionable views regarding Ukraine, often a colonial or imperialists view.

They don't want war, they just want to do these things peacefully to impose russia on Ukraine etc.

At this point I couldn't give two shits what happens in russia, what's important is helping Ukraine.

Hey, that's the plan. After the first release, the status update will probably be every two weeks. Currently, I'm struggling with the preparation of the release, it's taking up a lot of my time because I have many changes to integrate. On top of that, I've been going through a tough period in my personal life, but I've overcome it and starting from Monday, I'll be giving it my 100%. Contributors continue to be active, and their assistance is invaluable to me. To make matters worse, I have to deal with waves of spam that have recently surfaced on kbin.social, which you've probably noticed. Stay tuned ;)
