MonsiuerPatEBrown,

if you crush the person with a giant falling anvil it is quick and painless as well as long as a professional administers the anvil.

He's a fascist troll. Block him. Check his history. Classic "rack up reputation in game subs and then spam right wing hate speech everywhere else". Dude is a total fash troll, again, block him. Fedi works best when we block those guys because just responding to them is spreading their messages through your network.

Australian state of Queensland suspends human rights law to lock up children (www.aljazeera.com)

The rate of incarceration for Indigenous children in Queensland is 33 times the rate of non-Indigenous children. Maggie Munn, a Gunggari person and National Director of First Nations justice advocacy group Change the Record, says the move to hold children as young as 10 in adult watch houses was “fundamentally cruel and...

A Decongestant in Cold Medicines Doesn’t Work at All, an F.D.A. Panel Says. The panel’s vote tees up a likely decision by the agency on whether to essentially ban the ingredient, phenylephrine. (www.nytimes.com)

The agency now must decide whether products containing the ingredient, like some Sudafed and NyQuil products, should no longer be sold or perhaps give companies lead time to substitute other ingredients.

I think the best part is how the journal told him he was focusing too much on climate change over other factors in peer review, he spends most of it trying to defend only accounting for climate change, then after publication comes out and goes on a media tour about how he was forced, forced i say to only include climate change by the journal, seemingly forgetting that the journals peer review comments are published alongside the paper.

[News] State Republicans Try to Remove NC Supreme Court Justice for Mentioning the Existence of Racial Bias (slate.com)

On Tuesday, it was reported that North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls could be ousted from her seat for judicial ethics violations. Did she fail to disclose gifts from a billionaire benefactor on whose cases she was ruling? No. Maybe she’d gone on luxury vacations across the globe paid for by some of the richest...

U.S., FBI Hoovering Up DNA at a Pace That Rivals China, Holds 21 Million Samples and Counting (theintercept.com)

In an April 2023 statement submitted to the U.S. Congress to explain the budget request, FBI Director Christopher Wray cited several factors that had “significantly expanded the DNA processing requirements of the FBI.” He said the FBI collected around 90,000 samples a month — “over 10 times the historical sample...

soratoyuki,

Friendly reminder that we imprison people at the same rate as the USSR did at the height of the Gulag system. Behind all the euphemisms, we're living under the boot of a grotesque police state.

Nougat,

Again, this is literal, undeniable, and without hyperbole, fascism.

Nougat,

The issue in the US is that today, one of the two major political parties is every day becoming more clearly, and more openly, fascist. Maybe they always were fascist, but before, those people hid themselves, because they knew they would be ejected from the political process if they were out in the open.

You're absolutely correct that with or without Trump, fascism is on the rise. They're right out in the open now, proudly, and increasing their political capital in the US because they're fascists. Trump was the flashpoint personality around which these people found permission to openly be the fascists they always were. If it wasn't Trump, it would have been someone else.

It's that present-day permission to be shitheads that has spilled over from the US to other parts of the world. This is surely because of the US' position as a world leader politically, militarily, and culturally. If the same kind of thing had happened first in, say, Canada, the world would be far more likely to look at the situation with "Canada, WTF?"

Sicktatties,

Most cops hate even being charged for their coffee, they expect it to be given to them freely. That’s just how Mafia-style racketeering organizations sponsored by the government are. But this is even ballsier than charging them for coffee— I think it’s awesome, good for them! At the very least now they can know better than to bother calling 911 if they’re being robbed. I also kinda fully expect this place to burn down under mysterious circumstances. Just one of those things. You know.

Yes, why can’t people see this? This goes right along with people being mad at the poor for needing resources from the public fund while also saying we can’t tax the rich and their businesses because they will take their money and go (or some crazy fucking idea that the rich deserve to be there because they “worked hard” to get there, or worse - the idea that we shouldn’t “punish” them for being rich by asking them to pay their fair share).

The Parkland school massacre will be reenacted, with gunfire, in lawsuit against sheriff’s deputy (apnews.com)

So everything is going according to plan for DeSantis, right? Because that’s exactly what he wanted - all the “woke” folks in education gone.
