I mean this seems like an easy answer to me no? People in the past wouldn’t suspect you’re from the future, they’d think you were posessed or something. People in the future would be much more likely to think of time travel, plus they’d have records of old accents and stuff.

Eh I doubt it. Every single nuke ever built combined still doesn’t come close to the power of the Chicxulub asteroid (the one that killed the dinosaurs) and even that impact didn’t come close to eliminating all life on Earth. Unless someone accidentally compresses a mountain into an artifical black hole or something there probably is no way to wipe out all life on Earth.

75% of all species, not all life. Larger species and photosynthesizers were more heavily affected, while smaller species, scavengers, and deep sea life were less affected.

And I’m not a biologist, but I’m pretty sure even 75% of all life, not species, still wouldn’t be close to completely ending life on Earth, cause in the end as long as some microbes survived around a hydrothermal vent somewhere total extinction would be avoided.

Going a couple comments up the chain:

Even if humans manage to kill off most life on Earth it will continue to exist, propagate, and become more complex. Again we’re talking about billions of years. There have been huge shifts in climate and mass extinctions many times before and yet here we are.

So I took it to mean all life on Earth being dead. As long as one microbe survives to reproduce and start evolving it doesn’t count.

There are also some ants that farm certain types of fungus! It’s really cool.

The main advantage of early guns wasn’t that they were more powerful, it’s that they were easy to use. You can train someone to fire a gun in a day, while it takes months of training just to get an archer strong enough to draw a bow.

Also the whole “the Europeans were dirty diseased peasants” thing isn’t accurate, and I have to say that IMO the right response to racist depictions of indigenous people as unwashed savages isn’t to just turn around and say “actually the stereotypes are correct it’s just that it’s about the Europeans this time”.

And Indigenous people had more advanced technoglogy than many give them credit for but "The Europeans were technologically behind indigenous people in nearly every way. " is just blatantly wrong.

I do think you’re right though that without smallpox and other diseases the Europeans wouldn’t have colonised the Americas, though there were several other major factors in it.

P.S. I’m not a historian, grain of salt, etc.

Nope, sauropods were already right up against the limit of what’s physically possible for a land animal on Earth. If they were that chonky they would have been too heavy and would have overheated just from their body heat.

Woah how did you get your username like that?

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

But how do you get the bold text?

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh neat. I watched the anime version a while ago, but I didn’t read the original. If I ever get back into the series I’ll check your community out.

killer samples -> given more agressive music, codecs might fail. There are some examples on hydrogenaudio.

Can you clarify what this is? Are there songs that cannot be stored in mp3 form? I tried searching it but I just got a bunch of results about murder instead.

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

Neat, thanks.

Wait, built into a comet tail? But the tail of a comet is just gas and dust, it isn’t solid. Is this an oversight, did you mean inside the comet itself or do comets in your world have solid tails?

The art is gorgeous, I like how you’ve got the lights of the distant regions curving up and just barely visible through the fog.

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

Ah ok I see, that’s pretty cool.

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

I mean yeah it makes sense. Agriculture is the foundation of sedentary civilizations; in a medieval world like FR the vast, vast majority of people would be farmers; and without food everything else just falls apart.

Huh, didn’t expect to run across another FTD player in the wild. Hi!

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh damn, nice. I also finished the campaigns (Neter and AotE) this year, though I definitely couldn’t do it on Very Hard- I had some trouble even on medium.

Sure why not. I haven’t really built anything optimized recently though, so I might have to send an old design. Do you want to do a land, sea, or air battle? (or maybe space?)

There’s so much wrong with this… even beyond the obvious, they tiled the wall with exactly 6 tiles just around the sink. The sink is blocked by the shelf so you can’t use it from the front. And (it’s very blurry so I’m not sure) there seems to be some sort of sign stuck above the sink?

HenryWong327,

I read the first 15 or so chapters, then stopped because Harry was just a completely insufferable Mary Sue. I see a lot of people praising for the ideas behind it but the actual writing itself is pretty bad.

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

The technology behind it isn’t new, but The Thought Emporium is a Youtuber who:

1: DIY-d a genetically modified virus to cure his own lactose intolerance (successfully)

2: Is currently working on a biological computer that runs on animal neurons.

3: Has livestreams where the viewers submit ideas (like making tomatoes spicy) and he designs DNA to accomplish it.

Also he helped shut down a scam health product that contained radioactive material which isn’t particularly futuristic (actually it reminds me of the “radiation is good for you” craze in the early 20th century) but I wanted to mention it anyways.

Looks cool.
How much of the post-processing was done in Photoshop vs in Blender?

The contrast between the super slick minimalistic icons and the bright green Duolingo owl is absolutely hilarious.

I’ve never used Duolingo, what’s that widget for?

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

Cool, where did you find all those pixellated icons?

What are some ways aircraft corridors could be denoted to flying animals like birds? Also looking for infrastructure ideas for preventing bird-aircraft conflicts in general.

So the aviation industry in my science-fantasy world with intelligent animals is dominated by hovercrafts. They levitate and move by manipulating gravitational fields, and can move freely in any direction, are very quick to respond to control inputs, can hover in place or go as slow as they want since they don’t have a stall...

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

I can’t come up with any ways to show the flight corridors without it being visible, but maybe you could instead have the hovercraft move very predictably when at low altitude to make them easy to avoid.

For example, when landing, they could move directly above the landing pad while at cruising altitude, then descend directly downwards which would be obvious and easy to avoid, and the birds would know to avoid the space directly above landing pads.

If the sudden changes in direction are a problem, maybe you could have sort of indicator lights to show when a hovercraft is about to change direction.

What "vibes" or feelings are you trying to give off with your world?

Kind of a weird question I know, but let me explain. I’m not talking about your themes or messages, but the general feeling someone looking into your world or imagining themselves in it might get about the situation, when the world is not in conflict. Basically, you know how when you watch a franchise like Star Trek, it has...

HenryWong327,
@HenryWong327@lemmy.ml avatar

For my post-post-apocalyptic world, the main feeling I’m going for is hope. The idea being that some time far in the past a great calamity happened, but humanity has rebuilt, and despite all the great setbacks nothing can stop people from reaching ever higher (indomitable human spirit, etc, etc).

Another feeling I’m going for is the sadness of knowing that some ancient civilizations are lost, and we have no records of them and how they lived, and these things that were so important to people of the past are just gone forever. In my world the knowledge of the old world from before the apocalypse is fading, their buildings are eroding away, stories of them are slowly warped until they’re unrecognisable, and the artifacts left behind are lost one by one.

I guess these combined also creates a theme of moving on, though I don’t think that counts as a feeling.

Besides reading the Basic Rules, which someone else has already linked, I suggest you check out a game on Youtube. Note that usually these aren’t an accurate representation of how most games actually go- Critical Role for instance is comprised entirely of experienced voice actors- but it’ll give you an impression of how the game runs.

Just don’t base your expectations of your players/dm on them.
