It hits different when you’re the one being crashed into, but if it crashes less than monkeys behind the wheel and liabilities are all accounted for and punished accordingly, bring it!

It’s not clear from the article, but if this is a direct solar-to-dessalination I can understand how it uses less energy (why does it use any energy at all?) than other methods with pumps and filters, the issue is rate maybe, but I can’t find a paper about this.

Found fuelcellsworks.com/…/malaga-students-patent-an-in… which says it produces 1 cubic meter per day, which is great for small-scale seaside production. Again, I have no access to details of how 1 square meter of sunlight (or more, maybe they use mirrors to concentrate sunlight, it says 9 square meters, as kerfuffle mentioned) can dessalinate 1 cubic meter of water per day, but it’s great if it works, just wondering why solar dessalination hadn’t been tried to this degree of success before.

Debunking the Tech Hype Cycle with Dan Olson (www.youtube.com)

This interview is 2 months old, but I haven’t seen it discussed so far and given the news about reddit’s new cryptobeaniebabies, here it goes. This is a critique of the tech hype cycle, LLMs, VR, the metaverse failure, NFTs and cryptocurrencies with a refreshing historical awareness of past attempts that failed, like second...

You mean Adam Conover’s interviews? Me neither, this is completely new to me too, he’s like a literate Joe Rogan and less formal Lex Friedman :)

I didn’t know Dan, but when I heard he actually studied theology, I finally understood his meticulous understanding and debunking of the crypto delusion, NFTs and tech hypecycles in general, now I’m watching “line go up” :)

There is a sub for that (probably, c/horror, c/psychiatry), this ain’t it.

yeah, that makes more sense, haha: Loab is ň̴̖̭͂͋o̸̎͊̀͜t̴͇͉͑̅ͅ ̶͔͎̕͠r̵̤̹̄̌̇ȅ̷̛͎̪̱́å̴̱̲̃̚l̸̡͓̳͑͗͠ L̵͈̹̳̂̐͠ò̴̢͛̓a̶̡̛̟̳͑b̴̡̘̠͆̌ ̶̳͌ï̵͚͍͋s̷̫̼̿͐̋ ̷̳̍ň̴̖̭͂͋o̸̎͊̀͜t̴͇͉͑̅ͅ ̶͔͎̕͠r̵̤̹̄̌̇ȅ̷̛͎̪̱́å̴̱̲̃̚l̸̡͓̳͑͗͠ , so paste the article it in the original description and redeem yourself. Now here is another article with a picture to make you shit your pants: techcrunch.com/2022/…/loab-ai-generated-horror/ (don’t open this alone at night in the dark all of a sudden, you’ve been warned) turns out this is actually interesting. AI is probably able to create the most haunting images imaginable, there you go, another great use case waiting to be weaponized.

PS: in hindsight and after some habituation, it’s not that scary, but at first it’s spooky

As a 14-year long user, the new Fisher Price UI makes me sad :( What have they done to you, Reddit? (i.imgur.com)

Notice there is only 1 full headline (from /r/NoStupidQuestions) visible, it doesn’t even show the full post. There are 3 of those “trending” boxes but only 2 of those even fit their headlines because they are like 3 words long, they cut off anything longer including the description...

True, at this point they might as well rebrand to PM&C: porn, memes and crypto

Thank god for firearms (yes, very regulated, etc, not that kind of comment), because now we don’t bother with decades of practice of swordfighting, archery only to die to some noob with a machine gun and have released millions of man-hours to do better things with their time, like gardening, RnD, corporate pole climbing :)

A big lesson from Trump and others like him is that when someone’s a piece of shit and brags about it in public, it looks innocuous and at best it may be revealing and may validate your views on power and the flaws of society, but on another level he’s likely to give voice to, rally and convince other assholes to feel entitled and protected to act like assholes and then you have an actual problem. So yes, polite amorality is better.

Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak' (www.rawstory.com)

Evangelical Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ. In an interview with NPR, Moore said that multiple pastors had told h...

Yea, it’s an archetype, but it’s funny how some predictions are oddly specific for such a broad recurrent archetype:

“… a despicable person will arise… a man of contempt… to whom the royal honor has not been rightfully conferred. He will slip in when least expected and will seize the kingdom through flattery and intrigue.” Daniel 11:21

“He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior… He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.” Daniel 8:25, 2 Thess 2:10

“But then the court will convene, and all his power will be taken away.” Daniel 7:26

From these, the Antichrist’s description is starting to sound like Hannah Arendt’s banality of evil and how that is scarier than fictional supernatural evil with horns and pitchforks.

Last time I checked, CO2 released at that altitude has 3x the effect on radiative forcing, so it’s good that we’re not dumping it up there. I know water is also a greenhouse gas, but I expect the residence time to be substantially lower than for CO2. So it would be a net positive as long as we’re emitting on the ground the same amount of CO2 as emitted up there (we’re probably emitting more, but probably not 3x more and it would be easier to capture at the exhaust than from up there)

PS: more on radiative forcing factors here …stanford.edu/…/s3-radiative-forcing-rfi-memo_pub…

Complete corporate happy-go-lucky fake unawareness, gaslighting, no shame, but even feels like they are just saying this to humiliate the people who understand what it really means and banking on the memorilessness of their cattle…is there a word for this?
