BertitoMio,

how do you hide a post on kbin?

MKBandit,

What does this have to do with technology?

There is a sub for that (probably, c/horror, c/psychiatry), this ain’t it.

Crap this was meant to be a link to a nitter thread with lots of examples but I guess when you choose a photo the link gets borked. Sorry will have to do a retry when I’m back at my computer sometime. But for now you can just Google “loab Twitter”.

What I understand of it is that AIs can get a little confused when creating images, and when that happens, this creepy face (or alternate versions of “her” of course, since the AI isn’t going to pump out exactly the same thing all the time) can come out as a result. Someone named her “Loab” because of some text that showed up in the background of one of the images.

Here is a CNET article from last year on it. It is creepy, but an interesting, unintended side effect of the technology.

cnet.com/…/what-is-loab-the-haunting-ai-art-woman…

Ah thank you, I was too lazy to search for an article. That’s what was missing from this post…

yeah, that makes more sense, haha: Loab is ň̴̖̭͂͋o̸̎͊̀͜t̴͇͉͑̅ͅ ̶͔͎̕͠r̵̤̹̄̌̇ȅ̷̛͎̪̱́å̴̱̲̃̚l̸̡͓̳͑͗͠ L̵͈̹̳̂̐͠ò̴̢͛̓a̶̡̛̟̳͑b̴̡̘̠͆̌ ̶̳͌ï̵͚͍͋s̷̫̼̿͐̋ ̷̳̍ň̴̖̭͂͋o̸̎͊̀͜t̴͇͉͑̅ͅ ̶͔͎̕͠r̵̤̹̄̌̇ȅ̷̛͎̪̱́å̴̱̲̃̚l̸̡͓̳͑͗͠ , so paste the article it in the original description and redeem yourself. Now here is another article with a picture to make you shit your pants: techcrunch.com/2022/…/loab-ai-generated-horror/ (don’t open this alone at night in the dark all of a sudden, you’ve been warned) turns out this is actually interesting. AI is probably able to create the most haunting images imaginable, there you go, another great use case waiting to be weaponized.

PS: in hindsight and after some habituation, it’s not that scary, but at first it’s spooky
