An individual can have a dream or vision that is not just personal but expresses a deep need of the zeitgeist. It has been my fortune to conceive of such visions and, if only of modest influence, to create new realities.

In a 1998 article for the Journal of Online Education at New York University, I wrote that educators concerned with online education in the broadest sense, like so many nomadic masterless samurai, needed a real organization. My 1998 TCC online conference keynote address from Japan proposed the World Association for Online Education, to turn online education into a new professional discipline.

In mid-2023, I was asked to organize an Indo-Japanese research group towards a bi-national grant for 2024-2026. With members' input, I created a proposal, which we submitted to both governments, on Indo-Japanese Collaboration to Humanize Online Educational Experiences.

in 1831 a group of enslaved and free people, organized by Nat Turner, began an uprising against their oppressors in Virginia. They killed at least 55 people, leaving some of the poorest White homes alone. They were captured and largely killed by state militia within days. Legislative vengeance soon followed, with new laws making the enslaved condition even more restrictive than before. This was one of the most significant uprisings in .

Random Public Service Announcement: The hashtag means the author of the post containing that hashtag is an actually autistic person, as opposed to a relative, caregiver, or practitioner who is not autistic. It came about because autism-adjacent folks kept speaking over us, and we needed a way to identify when an autistic person was speaking for themself. The hashtag says nothing about whether someone has an official diagnosis, only about whether they identify as autistic. It is not correct for an allistic (non-autistic) person to use the hashtag to describe an autistic person - is a perfectly cromulent hashtag for that.
