Fake4000, to asklemmy in Isn't it curious how threads, especially with hashtags like "Tech Threads," aren't sparking much conversation? What are your thoughts on this

I agree with instances that decided not to federate with threads.

Imagine having millions of users just dumping content on us here. A continuous flood of low quality content.

Thanks for the explanation. Very helpful and insightful.

I don’t understand, you can pretty much install any app store on android.

Am I missing something?

Fake4000, to android in Google is working on message editing feature in Google Messages - TheSpAndroid

True. People here already been using WhatsApp for more than a decade. They have all their contacts and groups set up. You can’t just ask everyone to adopt a new standard.

Fake4000, to askandroid in Silly question for those comming from a iPhone. Do you miss imessage or was it not that big of a deal?

It depends on where you are. Outside the USA, hardly anyone I know uses iMessage really. It’s mostly WhatsApp everywhere else in the world.

True. This would be an issue for anyone with a custom ROM. Although Signal is there as an option as well.

Google Messages with RCS has the ability to become a new standard but there are two issues:

  1. I think it’s too late. People already use app with their groups all set. Might be difficult to shift people to yet another platform.
  2. Google beautifully has the reputation of killing off whatever doesn’t work. How future proof is this messages app now? Just look at the list of previous chatting apps by Google.
Fake4000, to android in Android updates are getting faster, but also more sporadic

Updates have been getting better though it depends on the company.

Samsung and Google are leading the updates, but a lot of companies would sell you a phone with two years of updates (Asus for example).

There are also worse brands that barely support their phones.

Used to envy apple users with their updates. It’s getting better now.

Fake4000, to asklemmy in Do you have a favorite filmmaker or movie that's not widely recognized in mainstream cinema?

I’m not sure if it’s considered mainstream it would be the vengeance trilogy of Park Chan Wook.

The movies are Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Old Boy, and Lady Vengeance.

Fake4000, to asklemmy in As an adult, what seemingly childish things do you get excited about?

App and OS updates.

Fake4000, to asklemmy in Any suggestions on either a cheap tablet to only read comics on, or suggestions of a community to ask for recs?

Lenovo M10 3rd gen.

They are about £120, basic tablets with decent batteries, 10 inch screen, has a memory card slot.

Fake4000, to asklemmy in What phone do you sugest for your grandparents?

If its an iPhone I would go with an iPhone plus for the screen size.

If its android, I would go with a Samsung A device. They’re usually big in size, affordable, comes with a lot of accessibility features, good battery, and relatively easy to find accessories and spare parts.

Fake4000, to opensource in Open source CRM solutions

One solution that comes to mind is Odoo

But you will have to check it and see if it has the things you look for.

Fake4000, to asklemmy in Is there a Lemmy stats site?

This one can help.

Fake4000, to android in Can a Five Year Old Phone Compete Today? How Far has Android Come Since the LG V50?

I have a few old phones that still work great. Yes Google might pull their support on the phone because it has an old version of android but you can always use fdroid or side load apps.

I have a couple of old phones here. A 10 year old phone that is used as a bedside alarm and flashlight when needed. The other is a 6 year old phone that is used as a practice device of loading custom ROMs and jail breaking purposes.
