Do you think 6500 is a low number? It’s not like each food desert affects only one person each. More likely than not, each is affecting more than a thousand people. Especially in a population dense area like Chicago. We are talking millions of people living in food deserts.
Also, after reading a bunch of your comments, I’m not sure you are fully aware of what a food desert is. But hey, that’s Capitalism.
Engineers at MIT and in China are aiming to turn seawater into drinking water with a completely passive device that is inspired by the ocean, and powered by the sun....
Increasing ocean salinity is a good idea. With all the ice caps melting, salinity is going further down. The salt makes the water denser, and that helps regulate temperatures. Also, the salinity differences between the poles and equator create a general current that cycles the water.
Plus, removing the salt and eventually returning the water is bad for ocean life. Their bodies need the salt.
I was bouncing at a bar in college when Lady Gaga was first getting huge, and we had a touchtunes that would play two songs for a dollar. So, sorority girls would come in put a dollar in, and play one lady gaga song and one other popular song at the time. It seemed like every third or fourth song was lady gaga. Being a sober person amongst drunk people playing the same songs all night long was getting on my nerves.
Lucky for me, there was a bar top game machine that also had touch tunes worked into the system. And, even luckier for me, I could play next for a dollar instead of the usual two dollars.
Every time lady gaga played, I’d put a dollar into the bar top console and I’d play next Hall & Oates “Rich Girl”. Yes, I’d probably lose money most of my tip out doing this, but it was worth it for me.
Took a couple nights for my manager to catch on, and he got a kick out of it. And it went on like this for a month or so until he got annoyed with it and told me to knock it off. Which I mostly did, but I’d still do it a couple times a night.
The best part for me was some sorority girl who asked her group of friends when my song came on, “what’s with this song playing all the time?”
Bartenders will generally split off a certain percentage of their tips with bar backs and bouncers. Just as waiters will split off some of their take with the kitchen.
As a Teamster, if I strike I get 80% of my pay (well above minimum wage) and I get their health care. Starting day one of the strike. Used to have to be on strike for two weeks, but it changed.

Never seen it with Kyle Ayers. Kyle invites comedians to write scripts for movies or TV shows that they’ve never seen. Then they do a brief table read of the script. Then they play games that Kyle has created. It’s a lot of fun, it usually very light and a lot of fun.
Dumb people town. It’s the podcast I have continually listened to constantly. Since like 2013 or 2014. Listeners will send in articles of news stories they find of people being dumb or doing dumb things.
In our contract we have it that no one has to work overtime, unless no one else who has worked more overtime than you rejects it.
Luckily, we’ve had some people fall into some legal trouble, so they grab up all the overtime that others don’t want. But there are two people who have worked zero overtime this fiscal year, and I really want to organize my shop into making them both work some really shitty overtime shift.
Because those people are shitty workers as it is, and no one wants them around anymore. And sometimes a cherry assignment for overtime comes around and everyone else wants it, but they get first dibs because of how our system works.
The system works like this. You get credit for the overtime you work. The people with the least amount of worked overtime are at the top of the list, and the most are at the bottom.
When opportunities for overtime are offered, we work down the list starting with the people who have worked the least overtime.
If we go though the list twice, and the number of people requested to work isn’t fulfilled, whoever is at the top is then forced to work the overtime. And we do that until we have the people.
I’ve thought about primarying my rep. She’s one of the far left chuckle fucks, and I stand a decent chance of beating her due to the fact that I am 1. Male. 2. A veteran. 3. Tall.
I can tell you something that brought up our morale. Our director was removed. Everyone’s morale and attitudes improved immediately. The in-fighting and pain-in-the-assery dissolved.
About a year before, a committee was formed to try and figure out ways to improve morale in our areas. Lots of good ideas were brought up, some were implemented. Morale stayed the same.
Had anyone known that removing of our director was on the table, every single person would have voted for that.
And the week before that, my inept foreman quit. That was the best Friday to Friday I ever had.

My platoon sergeant in Iraq. Lazy piece of shit, never did his work. Would wear PTs for weeks on end. A really creepy guy.
He got several women pregnant and skipped out on the kids. Got medically discarded from complications due to steroid usage. Claims all sorts of injuries that happened to me and my buddies so he can receive all sorts of perks and benefits. Has a custom built house gifted to him to account for the need for his mobility scooter, which he doesn’t need, got a free Harley, and got brought out and honored during an NFL game for being a hero, and he never did shit.

I was thinking about this the other day. But has no one else forgotten the Terminator movies? At least the first two, I never saw any others.
AI DESTROYS THE WORLD!
That’s all I ever needed. And don’t get me wrong, I always thank the digital personal assistants whenever they do something for me. But get the fuck out of here if you think I’ll actively participate in AI.
I’ve thought about this kind of question for a long time. I reckon I can beat up about 85% of the world’s population. I am a large man with quite a bit of experience fighting, none in a ring or a cage.
I’m not either, but I definitely believe that they should be state run and not run by corporations. Corporations are there to only make money, while a state run facility should be focused on lowering recidivism to keep their costs down.
Part of the idea is that the judge makes a ruling on whether or not they are a continued threat to themselves or others.
And if people do get bail, that doesn’t mean they won’t run. But now someone related ain’t losing their house.
Plus, this gives people the opportunity to continue working until their trial so their families don’t suffer because they couldn’t afford the bail and have nothing to put up against it.
My pet peeve is the Finnish name “Yrjö”. It comes from the Greek name “Geôrgios”, which means farmer, but nowadays the word “yrjö” means vomit. ‘Unique spellings’ like some “Everleigh” also drive me crazy.
I’d rather have a concept album of songs that play into each other and advance the narrative than one 20 minute song. I hate progressive music. I used to bounce at a bar whose owner’s son would book bands, and 90% were prog bands. Averaged 14 minutes a song, brought in lots of people who bought zero drinks but lots of waters. And they were all dickheads.
So she out the suspect in the back of a different cop’s car and then a train came? Did I read that correctly?
Why was a cop so far away from the car that no one was able to move it?
Who fucking parks on top of railroad tracks ever? I have a local spur that serves a lumber yard. I’ve literally never seen a railcar on the tracks and I would never think about parking anywhere near this tracks even though they cross the road into the yard where there is primarily street parking.
I honestly thought he’d already been canceled do to rape claims before. I thought that was why I hadn’t heard his name in years, and as an American that watches a bunch of British panel shows its a surprise.
I always hear stories about the dangers of buying from WIsh.com, Aliexpress, and recently Temu. I’ve jokingly called them “buyer beware” sites even. Yet people still use them, and there’s just as many positive results as negative. But I’ve also heard about unexplained card charges, data hacks, pyramid-scheme-like...
I’ve had pretty decent luck with wish. You just gotta do your due diligence and read the description in full and check reviews. I’ve never gotten duped or something of such poor quality it was useless. But my wife has and even she was like, duh I bought one ear bud.
I’m also almost never buying anything for more then $10, so if it breaks I’m not crying about it breaking me financially.
Yo. That is a very specific movie, and I barely think it qualifies as a comedy. You should consider deleting your comment because it could be considered false information or a hate crime.
A subscription to a specific podcast. Each episode is at least two hours long, sometimes up to four. I don’t care. I love it and eat it up. There are barely 5000 subscriptions to the podcast and while I wish the podcast was bigger so the host’s could get the recognition they deserve, the community built around it currently is great.
Also, it seems like $700 is the limit to a purchase being great for people. That’s interesting.
It’s was like 2013 for me. I think it was when they fudged with the time lines so that you weren’t seeing things chronologically but how the algorithm wanted you to see it.
I had a very decent account at the time too. Couple thousand followers (before the bot accounts started getting super bad) and like 30k tweets.
I still have an account, but I literally only use to to tweet stories to one podcast.
Guy across the street spent the weekend putting up Halloween decorations with his daughter. We can this guy “Heavy metal dad” because year round he displays pentagram flags, and wears heavy metal band shirts with the sleeves cut off all year. It’s great.
