DudePluto, (edited )

Not the guy you asked but maybe try to find the root of your habit. When I’m continuously doing something I want to stop, I find there’s a reason. Like for me, I drink more often than I mean to because I’m bored and feeling like my life has no meaning, but alcohol helps me relax and enjoy the little day to day things. So then that gives me a path forward: find things I’m more passionate about, do more fulfilling things instead of going straight to video games and tv, go back to therapy, etc.

So maybe your drinking is because you’re just bored, maybe you have an underlying issue like depression or anxiety, maybe you’re medicating your stress or avoiding addressing something. Idk it’s up to you.

But remember that you typically do things for a reason, and you’re not alone in struggling with this issue. It’s a lot of us man

DudePluto,

And replacing one potentially-abused substance with another

DudePluto,

Yeah, it’s better, but it’s not great if you’re doing it every day like the user above (edit: the original one who posed the question) was suggesting. I just don’t think the advice should end at “switch to weed” because it’s just changing the problem instead of offering advice for fixing it

In retrospect I like Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I watched Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny last weekend. Seeing it made me want to revisit the series – in particular the most controversial entry, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Maybe I’m just comparing it with DoD (which I found good but underwhelming), but I watched the whole thing and I honestly think that KotCS is a...

DudePluto,

witty commentary on current issues

Am I the only one who doesn’t enjoy the twitter-takes? Don’t get me wrong, I actually agree with most of the takes. It’s just that it all feels like they’re trying to one-up each other with the cleverest gotcha and it makes me roll my eyes. Maybe I’m just not the target audience for a twitter/mastodon style community

DudePluto,

Using Connect too, surprised I don’t hear more about it. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty solid

Reminder: Reddit is gone. Your community *is* official. If you're a mod, you're just as good as a reddit mod.

I keep seeing communities on lemmy writing in their bio "not official" or in some way deferring to the reddit community. I also see them writing that they're willing to give up their community to the reddit mods if they ask. It's like the whole place has imposter syndrome....

DudePluto,

I would imagine it working just like on reddit and lemmy, where it can originally be claimed by the original poster or anyone who wants it. It’s obviously not an ideal solution, but it’s worked well enough historically. Maybe someone else would have a better idea

DudePluto,

For future reference, if you find a community that looks dead and you want to take over, you can message the admins of that instance and they’ll look into giving you the community :)

DudePluto,

Tip: If you're thinking about making a community, google it first, like this:

Let's say I want to make a community for dogs. I'll google "c/dogs lemmy" and some variations just to be sure.

This has been working for me. If it doesn't come up, it probably doesn't exist

DudePluto,

GenZedong and other communities shilling on lemmygrad. Some of these accounts post multiple pro-china, pro-russia, anti-usa articles per hour. I'm all for open discussion, but accounts like that are just propaganda pumpers

To be clear, not everyone and everything on lemmygrad is a tankie shill. We need places that are safe for discussion of political ideologies. But I mention lemmygrad because that's where the tankies seem to be flocking
