It’s been many years and I’ve found very few outlets that consistently resonate with me.
In terms of review quality, I think the best one is Easy Allies (formed by folks who used to work at GameTrailers). They match video clips with a well-written script and professional narration so perfectly. You can tell they haven’t just thoroughly played the game under review, but they know its history among the genre. But IMO they focus too much on console, where I’m PC-only.
I’ve thought about those but I’m just not sure I’d really use them. I’m generally happy keeping my screen pretty simple with static wallpaper and very few widgets.
Really? I only used the recipe book once but it seemed easy to hit the checkboxes and move ingredients over to my grocery list.
Mostly I just use it to sync shopping lists between myself and my partner. For that it has been quite reliable. Yeah I can imagine some UI improvements, but overall I think it’s pretty good.
Can you find a better grocery app? I’ve tried a ton of them and most were horrible. Either they had a hard-to-navigate UI with no dark mode, or they didn’t allow syncing with another person, or some major functional problem.
There used to be a grocery app I loved called Cinnamon but the dev stopped maintaining it :(
There are so many variables here it’s gonna be hard to pin down.
My guess would be the crashes were the game not playing as nicely with Proton as it could. Maybe try a different version, e.g. non-GE Proton 8 or Experimental.
The weird choppiness and FPS I would guess is your network. I remember when Steam Link features first came out, it worked great but then would become horrible for a couple hours. Everything was wired in, no bandwidth hogs in the house. Well, turns out that since I was using Powerline Ethernet, it would go haywire with the data streaming whenever my girlfriend did laundry. The washer and dryer threw a fuckton of noise into the line 😆 So I bought a long cable and then it was all good.
I’m making a fantasy novel. In this one there is a monarchy system, where 4 families rule in turns. After the current monarch dies, the next family in the circle most present an heir from their family to ruse the nation until they die and then the next family takes the throne....
I miss those so much. Any modern games still playing with this concept? I remember Half Life had the bathroom, kitchen, and office, and I remember a backyard one in Quake 3 that was really cool.
I was actually being facetious. Maybe it seems like a throwback or whatever now, but back when DNF finally released, the “tiny player, big world” idea was rather played out. Duke Burger felt very dated and out-of-place in a game where you’re supposed to be this big macho badass because suddenly you can get stomped on or crushed by small kitchen objects. The level itself is a maze of almost entirely platform jumping puzzles and totally overstays its welcome. But I guess it looks kinda cool and does sort of break the monotony of a bad game.
Other games (and especially player-made maps) in the late 90’s did it much better. I especially remember custom levels for its predecessor, Duke Nukem 3D, that had a lot of fun with the shrunken player concept. HL and Quake too like you mention. Folks here also said de_rats in Counter Strike which might’ve been the pinnacle.
For a few years I’ve made it a personal point not to read any political coverage with overblown action verbs in the title like “X slams Y over spending bill” or “Y attacks Z”. It’s subjective but I swear it has genuinely helped my mental health. A filter that does this would definitely be nice now that you mention it!
Wefwef looks nice and I really want to like it but I keep tapping the back button and getting sent all the way back to my communities list, and therefore losing my spot in the scroll. It’s getting old really fast.
where do yall go for your gaming coverage/pods?

What Android apps are worth paying for?
What non-game paid apps do you use that are worthwhile and still relevant in 2023?...
Don't judge me I know that frequently they represent almost the same softwares but is just a matter of principles. (discuss.tchncs.de)

What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

Anyone else remember those giant scale maps that used to be in shooters? e.g. bathroom, kitchen, office, backyard, that made you feel so tiny?

Can I filter out posts that contain the word "Reddit" ?
That’d be nice
