So, I don’t trust them to have actually done what I’m going to describe, (and honestly I’ve just accepted that even with everything off, they’re still giving me ads based on stuff I’ve only talked about and never clicked or written anything), but:
The programs that recognize specific phrases(Ok Google), are always separate from normal voice recognition (and muchmuch lighter in terms of processing). So, if they weren’t Google, they might have left the “Ok Google” recognition on, but not process anything else that the mic receives.
Employee layoffs have nothing to do with the work a company has/intends to do.
A great video by Moon Channel, explains this and other things, about how the layoffs are 100% performative, to appease investors, in a literally manufactured hype cycle.
I personally think that the same goes for 100% 150% of all public statements these companies and their leaders make.

All languages always, have evolved at rapid rates, as long as they’re used. If you went back in time to, say, the 1600s, you would sound stupid. If someone from the 1600s went back to the 1200s, he would sound stupid. If you went back to the 1200s, nobody would understand you.
This is not a new thing, it is how our languages work.
