Blue_Morpho,

I use trig every few years when buying a tv. Tv specs always list diagonal but rarely horizontal and vertical which is needed for knowing how a TV will fit in a space.

Blue_Morpho, (edited )

There is a TV special from 1965 that describes your plight:

en.m.wikipedia.org/…/A_Charlie_Brown_Christmas

I think there must be something wrong with me, Linus.

Christmas is coming, but I’m not happy.

I don’t feel the way I’m supposed to feel.

I just don’t understand Christmas I guess.

I like getting presents and sending Christmas cards…

…and decorating trees and all that, but I’m still not happy.

I always end up feeling depressed.

Blue_Morpho,

Careful, there’s a mod named Stamets here that will ban you for not loving Disco. He was probably the reddit mod too.

Blue_Morpho,

Lemmy isn’t much better. The mod Stamets loves DIS so you better not criticize it. I assume he was the reddit mod.

Blue_Morpho,

I was arguing with him that Disco wasn’t great, didn’t know who he was, and looked at his history. I stopped arguing once I saw him banning for arguing against him.

Blue_Morpho,

Are those like the Burger King Star Wars glasses that have dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium?

Blue_Morpho,

I think they mean you can’t see the results. So you can downvote a post but if you look at a post it doesn’t show you how many downvoted. It only shows you how many upvoted. It makes it impossible to tell if a subject is controversial.

Blue_Morpho,

YouTube has dislikes. The thumb down is still there. But it doesn’t show the results.

Blue_Morpho,

You could have pasted the Scanners head exploding meme in as the last frame.

Blue_Morpho,

Stop whatever you are doing and go watch it.

Blue_Morpho, (edited )

Did Linus ever really apologize for the “we didn’t sell the prototype we auctioned it” comment. I only saw him make excuses about miscommunication (blaming the company that lent the prototype). Or apologize to Gamers Nexus for saying they didn’t do “real” testing?

I only saw a long corporate speak “we will do better” video.

Blue_Morpho,

What did he ever do? He seems to be the YouTube equivalent of famous for being famous. I’ve tried watching but it’s a lot of nothing talk and seemingly contrived drama with other YouTubers who also talk a tremendously long time about nothing.

Blue_Morpho, (edited )

Prototype company had initially said that they could keep it.

That was the lie that Linus told that got me to stop watching LTT. The company sent Gamers Nexus the email chain where they clearly had been asking for it back and got the run around until it was auctioned. Then Linus had the gall to say, “We didn’t sell it, it was auctioned.”

LTT is a big company. Mistakes were made. But instead of saying, we screwed up they tried to blame the prototype company when it wasn’t their fault at all.

Blue_Morpho, (edited )

Linus didn’t have a direct apology to the prototype company. He blamed them for his auctioning off their prototype. Saying, [sic] “Sorry, you made a mistake and we didn’t follow through correctly.” isn’t a real apology.

The company responded by sending the email chain to Gamers Nexus to prove their side of the story.

Blue_Morpho,

GN August 14th www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGW3TPytTjc&t=108sbreaks story

Linus claims Billet said we could keep it and we didn’t sell it we auctioned it.

Linus defends his “we didn’t sell it we auctioned it” www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY&t=948sby saying its important to get all the details.

However the details, as Linus already knew, was that Billet asked for it back 2 weeks earlier, they lost track of it and sold it.

Linus response August 14th: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY&t=948sclaims they offered to pay for it before they were under any pressure

GN August 15th www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3byz3txpso&t3m54sBillet labs shows email chain they didn’t receive a response until after GN video was released and LTT was under pressure.

Billets email chain shows that they asked for it back long before it was sold. Linus claims they offered to pay for it before being pressured. Billet labs email chain shows they didn’t receive an offer until after GN’s videos hit the news.

Blue_Morpho,

Never noticed he has an Infinity Stone.

Blue_Morpho,

The design should incorporate a screwdriver as the trigger for authenticity.

Blue_Morpho,

Be careful careful about arguing that on lemmy.world. I argued for a bit with a “both sides are bad”, eventually called them out for being a Putin puppet, and got my post deleted by a Lemmy.world mod.

Blue_Morpho,

And instead of women, make it borg.

Lore loves his borgs.

Blue_Morpho,

Most of the degree is actually learning sociopathic tricks, like how to handshake or posture to intimidate

Never took a business class but I don’t think that’s taught at university.

They’re born with that ability.

Blue_Morpho,

I’ve needed several times is detect which running processes have a lock on a given file,

I used to use procman but there is a power toy for that now. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/…/file-locksmith

Blue_Morpho,

For video, virtualdub2 and avisynth. Avisynth let’s you handle video as if it were a variable in a program. This lets you do things impossible with a regular video editor.

Blue_Morpho,

But here’s the gut punch. If you were listening to Physical Graffiti in 1975, 24 years earlier was 1951.

That was the end of big band music. You know, oldies.

Blue_Morpho,

You left out that you need a $70 -$150 meat slicer.

Blue_Morpho,

You think I meant 20k?

“Probably saved nearly $20,000 on groceries those two months. Give or take”

I can’t tell if you are trolling

If you had a one-way ticket to Jan 1, 1999 that departs on Jan 1, 2024, and you are allowed to bring whatever fits into a backpack with you, what would you bring to use to take over the world, and how would you use it? (kbin.social)

Assume that the future can change based on your actions, so any historical information that you bring along with you from the intervening 25 years may quickly drift out of the new realities history....

Blue_Morpho,

Get every flagship CPU and GPU from 2000 to today that I can get my hands on.

What use is that? Without the asml duv lithography machine, no one could duplicate it. And you’d have no motherboard to plug those chips into.

Blue_Morpho,

If looking at a 5nm chip was all that was needed to make a copy, China would already be selling RTX 4090 clones.

Blue_Morpho,

Bluetooth has it’s own stack. Wifi typically runs tcpip. Your post doesn’t even make sense because both wifi and Bluetooth coexist today so clearly there was no “winner”.

Blue_Morpho,

They are selling your data anyway. The $30 covers their costs to market your data to advertisers.

Blue_Morpho,

I thought it was easy until my kids’ school system tried to do it.

The bus drivers all quit. The only reason they took the job was because it was early and they could start a 9-5 job after their bus drive.

After delays and rescheduling, many schools in the district now start earlier than they did before they tried to make them later.

Blue_Morpho,

Hiring takes time. It also required a lot more money than was budgeted because you need people who don’t have a 9-5. And lastly, not everyone lives in the city where there are buses.

Blue_Morpho,

as long as the town is designed well.

Unfortunately I have to live in the real world where towns aren’t designed well. Besides, the average yard in my neighborhood is 3.5 acres so general purpose public transportation wouldn’t work either.

Blue_Morpho,

I didn’t understand either but that’s the reason that they gave for quitting. Maybe some schools had a different afternoon driver.

Blue_Morpho,

A small town is 10,000-50,000 people. Average home price is $300k. There are around 2,000 towns of 10,000-50,000. That’s $18,000,000,000,000 to build some of the small towns in the US to be public transportation friendly. Who gets dragged out of their homes to make room for rebuilding?

And you’ll still have to problem that many people don’t want to live in crowded towns. Most people that like crowded cities are already living there.

Blue_Morpho,

I’d think Blu-ray m-disc would be a bit safer than a floppy that could have a bit flip from being too close to an iPhone (magsafe).

Blue_Morpho,

It’s an inanimate carbon rod. The hero of space.

Blue_Morpho,

I like the theory that it’s sent to the bridge to uplift the morale of the regular crew. They knew the officers will be the first to get blown up in any hostile encounter.

It keeps the captain in check if he knows he’s going to get a blown up console to the face instead of a lower deck red shirt dying .

When those protocols can’t be used like in landing parties, it’s the red shirts who die first.

Blue_Morpho,

T-34s, especially wartime production T-34s were not great tanks.

They were good enough that they completely outclassed the Panzer III and IV that were sent against them at the start.

"The Panzer IV was partially succeeded by the Panther medium tank, which was introduced to counter the Soviet T-34, " en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_IV

“a direct reaction to the encounters with the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks and against the advice of Wa Prüf 6.[Notes 1][12] The T-34 outclassed the existing models of the Panzer III and IV.[13][14] At the insistence of General Heinz Guderian, a special tank commission was created to assess the T-34”

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panther_tank

Blue_Morpho,

No, the stories came from Patton who publicly didn’t want his troops demoralized but privately reported on how mismatched the Sherman was against the Tiger.

“Even when upgraded to a 76mm, the M4’s armament could not penetrate the frontal armor of the more heavily armored German tanks and assault guns. Therefore, standard tactics for a five-tank platoon engaging German Tiger and Panther tanks required one section to draw the Germans’ fire, while the other section maneuvered to the flank and engaged the German tanks from the side or rear. Such tactics were not morale-builders for tank crews.”

Blue_Morpho,

Wife watches yt on Roku.

Blue_Morpho,

Pihole hasn’t blocked YouTube ads in years because the ads come from the same domain. And that’s not including the new crackdown that YouTube did on ad blocking.

Blue_Morpho,

Whaaaa? Where? The dude said he couldn’t release because of copyright. Is it on torrents?

Blue_Morpho,

Thanks! I thought you got a hold of that remake done in Unreal Engine.

Blue_Morpho,

Lemmy.world’s faq claims they will ban you when they eventually find out you used a service like that.

Blue_Morpho,

living organic link

And you are ignoring my first post that said it’s just atoms moving and bonding. “Living” is only a chemical process. I believe it was Robert Hook who when looking at a living cell under the first microscope powerful enough, commented on his disappointment that “cells were just machinery”

Yes their simulation failed because somehow there computers aren’t any faster than today’s computers.

The writers knew it didn’t make any sense which is why they lampshaded it-

Stamets: “At the quantum level, there is no difference between biology and physics. No difference at all.”

Blue_Morpho, (edited )

despite the show emphatically saying that the simulations kept repeatedly failing.

Which I already said is odd because it means their computers aren’t any faster than today’s computers. If Disco was set in 2025, I could understand why they couldn’t simulate protein folding with enough accuracy. But this is set in the future where they can record every atom with such perfection (Heisenberg compensator) that every atom in a person’s DNA is routinely read, transported across thousands of miles and reconstructed perfectly.

The network required a living construct to engage with. I already said there would need to be a physical interface between the computer and the mycelial network.

You’re arguing in bad faith I had already addressed every point that you repeated. The only one ignoring what I wrote is you.

Don’t take Trek so seriously. It’s just a show. It’s ok to point out holes.
