Apple isn't "winning" through merit and building better products.

They're playing dirty, and Airtags are another example of this company bullying the market.

We ALL Suffer When Apple Products DON’T “Just Work”...

Update on the ad tracking wars:

Browser went spastic this morning with several sites not loading properly. Google has now started blocking my ability to use Google Maps and Google Drive unless I disable the ad tracker.

So in short - my files and content are effectively held hostage until I grant full permission to Google to track my activities on pages where ad tracking is supposedly not taking place.

"When beginning the journey of restoring digital privacy, some people get overwhelmed with all the work involved, and perhaps give up. Don’t let that be you. Understand that you don’t need to do everything right away. Instead, start small and go step by step at your own pace. With each step in the process, you get more security and control over your personal data, which is a small victory."
https://restoreprivacy.com/google-alternatives/

"In the modern age of digital data exploitation, your privacy has never been more critical, and yet many believe it is already a lost cause. It is not. Your privacy is up for grabs, and you need to care about it. Privacy is about power, and it is so important that this power ends up in the right hands."

You probably weren't aware, but your crypt(5) supports the following hashing functions (in addition to some others):

  • bcrypt ($2b$)
  • scrypt ($7$)
  • yescrypt ($y$)

You should definitely migrate to one of those password hashing functions over the risky sha256crypt / sha512crypt which is default on most distros.
