Great piece by @cstross on the relationship between #scifi and creating a worthwhile future, apparently delivered as a keynote yesterday.

This weekend is my first test of the waters with ads and leaflets for The Closed Tunnel at YALC (Young Adult Literature Convention) in London🫣 You may see one page from it below 🤗

Of course, the book isn't finished yet, so it's just an invitation to my newsletter, where I plan to send out gifts from time to time.

It’s my first contact with the big world, and I'm super nervous🙈 Just send me some good vibes, please 🫶🏻

This article discusses how a group of excessively wealthy individuals(we know who they are), driven by a passion for young adult science fiction literature, is influencing global politics. It's genuinely worth exploring.

The Science of Sci-Fi Cinema
Essays on the Art and Principles of Ten Films

This volume of essays examines 10 films, with a focus on discerning the possible, the unlikely, and the purely science fictional. With essays by scientists in relevant fields, chapters provide analyses of the movies themselves, along with examination of the actual science (or lack thereof) in each film.

Has anyone got #sff #scifi #fantasy recs for good books with ambulatory #wheelchair users? Big bonus if there’s an audiobook available.

My sweetie is yelling about how the wheelchair user in her current read was written (among other things) and I’d like to get her something better. :)

inkican,

@villainousfriend I wish I had better news, when I first wrote my novel mesh, I made sure that the protagonist was wheelchair bound and getting his legs fixed with a cybernetic robotic leg system was part of the plot. I got such a bad feedback on that, so many accusations of being insensitive, that I took it out.

Calling all sci-fi nerds. If you haven’t seen Pantheon yet you need to.

I just found out about this show a few days ago. It’s not streaming here in Canada but you can purchase it on Apple TV.

I’m halfway through the first season and I’m hooked.

Today marks the end of Scavengers Reign on Max.
(no, we don't know if there will be another season, but I have no confidence in Warner. And maybe it's just not necessary.)

This show has already joined my sci-fi pantheon, so I'm counting on the finale to confirm my enthusiasm. 🤞 #scifi #animation #scavengersreign #max

@appassionato @bookstodon 'The Man Who Awoke' remains one of my all-time favourite books. To think, Manning foresaw all these revolutions so long in the past.

And funny that it could fit just as easily in your previous toot, Menace of the Machine.

I made a pledge on Kickstarter for "Solarpunk Magazine" 2024 with only a few hours to go - I've loved reading the magazine this year and am really happy to support them!

Got waylaid by all the great perks but
ended up going with the collection because I loved the short story "Midnight Serenade" by @jendiagammon (@jendiagammon) and I wanted to read their novel "The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern" - very excited!

@SFRuminations I really loved Slow Tuesday Night when I read it in the 1980's. Perhaps I should check out Lafferty again.

Cyprus Dance Film Festival, supported by my Deep Immersion.

So honored to present my future book The Closed Tunnel on the red carpet and give an interview to Cyprus TV☺️

It's such an elegant way to push me to finish writing The Closed Tunnel faster😅.

I’m not sure it will work this way, but still, the attempt counts!

#NaNoWriMo Day 5. Don't Mess With the #Writer 😈

The day before I decided to take a break and trim my trees, so I did! 💪🏻😄 A meditative exercise, I tell you. While pruning, I thought about the plot development of my #scifi book The Closed Tunnel.

Can I brag? Not only am I writing a book, but I have pomegranates in the garden 😂

Key takeaway: writing a #book is not always typing on a keyboard. 80% of the time, the story is born in your head.

Have a great week, everyone! 🫶🏻

@AnthonyHarold @bookstadon This is very true, about writing the first draft in your head before you type any actual words.
