There was a time when I pursued all new #scifi. Now I ignore new shows like the plague since there's a better chance than not that it isn't on a service I have.
Not too long ago we would all meet. It might have been Friends, Cheers, Muppets, any shows we'd all talk about for weeks.
Now I have to pay just for access to those services and who can afford them all anyways?
I'm tempted to cancel everything. What's the point...
Can anyone point me at a good star system name generation table? Not an online generator that spits out names, but something I can actually roll on? #SciFi#TTRPG#RandomTable
I’m disappointed in Christopher Paolini. Both books in the Fractalverse series turn into a long slog of misery and character torture. I don’t want to slog through upwards of 1/3rd of the book just being depressed, harmed, and mangled characters.
To Sleep in a Sea of Stars and Fractal Noise have a lot of interesting ideas. But they don’t carry the story. I can’t recommend his work anymore. In fact I actively advise you to avoid it. I don’t know if he’s trying to be dark and gritty, or if he’s just in a deep dark place, but it’s ugly, near saw level torture porn.
@BabblingGeek i tried to sleep in a sea of stars and it was quickly a DNF bc of bad writing. it's a shame that someone can get so far bc of who their parents know when they aren't even skilled at what they do.
From #BookRiot:
These ten cozy sci-fi books showcase optimism in different ways, from better futures to irresistibly hopeful characters. They’ll leave you feeling happy and carefree.
The list includes books from well-known authors such as Becky Chambers, Matt Haig, Mary Robinette Kowal … and me!
