That’s it! 🤯
I’ve completed draft 1 of my 1st #SF novel #Volition 🚀
It’s been a goal since 2015 when I completed my Eng Lit degree.
I’m thinking, “Shoulda done this years ago!” but that’s irrelevant, as I’ve done it now 🥲
Still heaps of work ahead, but that’s tomorrow, today is for enjoying this. 🥳
I've posted this link before, but for someone else, I think.
I'm a heavy outliner - I include all/most of the little side conversations and bits and bobs in my outlines, because I find that with that complete an outline, I can get up to 5-8000 words in a writing day. (The link is ugly, I'm so sorry.)
I know a lot of pantsers and plantsers, but I'm not one of them.
@JoanGrey@golgaloth@bookstodon@amwriting Some helpful technique here. You weren’t mucking around when you said you Outline. This is nice thorough. I’m thinking for the sequel to my current novel I’m writing for Nano I’ll do this kind of outline. Maybe in a spreadsheet, which works well for my data-driven brain, though I do like the idea of an actual calendar and physical cards, so we’ll see. Perhaps a mixture of both. Cheers for sharing
The day before I decided to take a break and trim my trees, so I did! 💪🏻😄 A meditative exercise, I tell you. While pruning, I thought about the plot development of my #scifi book The Closed Tunnel.
Can I brag? Not only am I writing a book, but I have pomegranates in the garden 😂
Key takeaway: writing a #book is not always typing on a keyboard. 80% of the time, the story is born in your head.
I usually have one writing book in my reading rotation. They vary based on what I need & the state of my writing. My reaction to Pressfield's The War of Art is always the most telling.
As a freelance writer pre-grad school, it resonated deeply. I needed that "get over yourself & get to work" message.
But during other periods, I'm really turned off by it. That usually means I need to slow down, think through tough ideas, and/or seek out guidance.
Currently I'm re-reading Howard Becker's Writing for Social Scientists.
The "Terrorized by the Literature" chapter is a little too spot on. And the Risk chapter (Pamela Richards) hits a lot harder than it did my first year of grad school.

Hi Steve, nice to meet you in the Fediverse.
Unfortunately my author site is currently under reconstruction after a provider change and the conversion to Joomla5. However, my novels of the NEBULAR series can be found in almost all common eBook stores, in German, French, English, and recently also in Italian, Spanish and Dutch translation. At the moment, the first 42 novels and 11 anthologies are still bound at Amazon and available for Kindle Unlimited, but by the end of the year I will release them from the contract and offer them again in all stores. Currently I have 75 novels published (an Addition of three more as a spin-off) and I am about to publish the next regulär one shortly. Some examples for my novels, attached. #autorenleben#selfpublisher#sciencefiction#spaceopera#ebooks
Good luck to anyone starting their novel today! Personally I'll be trying to finish the one I started last year. Let Operation Finish A Thing begin... #nanowrimo@bookstodon
@patchworkbunny@bookstodon Good luck, Ellie. I finsihed and published my 2022 MS and now I'm starting something entirely new! Wishing you every success in 2023 ✍️
I'm still looking for authors who have completed NaNoWriMo to come on my #WriteTalkWednesday show and discuss their writing (promo a book or two) and how they made it through #NaNoWriMo
Will need to be avail 6pm CST (central time) on Wedesdays in November.

A bit over 2.5k words to go. Good chance I’ll get to 50k tomorrow.
My main concern is finishing off the narrative. I’m right there, at the end, 61 chapters, just now, and maybe I can wrap it up in another 5 or 6 chapters I think.
But I’m almost scared to finish. This month has been a personal phenomenon. I don’t want it to end.

I’ve finally caught up to my schedule. But that feels beside the point right now, as regardless of the schedule, I’ve got 4,818 words remaining to write in the next three days to successfully complete NaNoWriMo in 2023. 🫠
Not there yet, but a few weeks ago it seemed truly impossible. No celebrating yet, but soon- 🤭

Still cracking along. My writing is at the point now where while it’s a little hard to get going again, once I have started it’s not too hard to just keep going. I’ve never written like this for so long. It’s becoming very satisfying.
Tomorrow I will catch back up to and then exceed my projected word count again.

Just a quick update today because it’s midnight and I’m buggered after working a full day, going to the gym this evening, and then writing 2,611 words 😁
Couldn’t be happier really. Still a good way to go, but I’m starting to believe I might make it.

Still trucking, and still in with a realistic shot of getting this over the line.
Had a slow weekend as I meandered down the long and boring narrative road, but some adjustments and two chapters rewritten and it’s firing once again. Tension building, excitement too.
Keep on writing everyone! Still a week to get your goals met! 😅
