@bookstodon Just out of curiosity, how close are you to your reading goal for the year? I need to read 12 more books to meet the goal I set for myself. 📚📚📚📚

Not everyone works the same way, of course. We've discussed before that reading goals are counterproductive for many. Having a goal really helps me, but it doesn't work for everyone. Just like reading for pleasure and reading to write a review are very different processes.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I feel like I've read less this year but I'm 7 away from my goal, and considering the kind of things I read at this time of year, that's easily achievable!

I didn't read a huge amount in November, but I finished the ATY reading challenge and some fantastic books.

Good luck to anyone starting their novel today! Personally I'll be trying to finish the one I started last year. Let Operation Finish A Thing begin...

@bookstodon folks, do you listen to audiobooks? If so:

  • Do you have favorite narrators? Or the opposite? Ever started or quit listening to something because of the voice?
  • if you’re talking about a book, do you say you’ve read it?

patchworkbunny,
@patchworkbunny@ellie.social avatar

@lunalein @bookstodon I am so fussy about narrators, they can really make or break an audiobook for me. I love Maya Lindh's reading of Will Dean's books, she is just perfectly Tuva for me, and I probably wouldn't have been so invested in the series without her. I always try and sample new narrators before committing. I'll switch to eye-based-reading if I don't get on with them but am interested enough in the book to continue.

@bookstodon Good morning. I remember reading sometime in the past year that BookDepository (can ship books anywhere in the world) was shutting down. Two questions: a. is this true, and b. is there another way I, in the States, could send a hard copy book to another country without going through Amazon? Thanks.

@gwendolenau @starry1086 @bookstodon There's also Wordery (UK company) who do free international delivery. I think one of the original Book Depository people started it after TBD was sold to Amazon.

@doclomieu @bookstodon 1. that is a very time consuming way to do it when there's multiple books affected, 2. the problem is that list shows duplicates of the same author. Yeah sometimes there's authors who share names but so far in trying to fix my imported books, it's always just been the same author duplicated multiple times. I guess removing them from a book does not remove them from that list for others to pick in the future?

@doclomieu Yeah, it was a merge feature I was asking about, not a delete option, but thanks for trying @bookstodon
