Isn't it frustrating when a rainbow shows up and you're someplace unattractive, like a fast food parking lot? "Oh good, I can frame it with these overflowing dumpsters in the foreground, that'll be nice." I like this situation better -- already someplace scenic with a camera in my hand, ready to go!
Late afternoon dog walk. I love this view, looking across north Northumberland to the Borders and the three peaks of the Eildon.
On those distant slopes, Thomas the Rhymer met the fairy queen (or 'queen of an unco' land' as she was in the oldest version we have) and went with her into the hills.
There, many years later, Canobie Dick tried and failed to wake the sleeping King Arthur in a torchlit chamber under the same hills.
A landmark visible from virtually every raised point in the whole region and easily identifiable, no wonder it was used as the site of a Bronze and later Iron Age settlement, then the Roman fort of Trimontium, and went down in legend as a place of magic and mystery.
It feels like it's going to be an early fall on the north shore of Lake Superior. Many trees are already changing a brilliant red and yellow. In contrast, I made this photo on October 5th of last year. I have a feeling that this location may peak late September this year.
Washington State's Mount Baker (aka Komo Kulshan - 3286 m / 10780 ft) looming over Boundary Bay (A bit exaggerated due to lens compression) in British Columbia, Canada. I think of this photo more as a Bald Eagle photo (sitting on driftwood in the bottom right) but the mountain takes up more of the frame. More eagle photos from this day here:
After a month off to move house and do family things, I'm back, and I can't wait to be getting out with my camera more often again. Anyway, here's one from the Forêt d'Andaine, Normandy, France.
Pinnacles of Meteora, Greece are a stunning testament to nature & the ingenuity of man. A stunning landscape that will leave you without words. Perched atop several of these monoliths are a complex of monasteries as if suspended in air. Imagine building on a freestanding pinnacle, ropes, ladders & nets in the 14th century. Out of 20+ 6 still remain.
Early morning in northeastern Iowa. This spot is one of the prettiest farm scenes in the country. If it was anywhere other than Iowa, it would be overrun with photographers every sunrise in the summer. But it is in Iowa, so few go.
