The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This is the 4th entry in the Inheritance Games series. The books are a mashup of and and are a lot of fun, with snappy dialogue and good puzzles. Recommended on too.

Currently listening to Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, international bestselling author of The Mountains Sing. This is another story set in Vietnam/the US about an Amerasian man who’s trying to immigrate to the US with his family in 2016. As the child of an Amerasian mother, this story, though fictional, will help me get better insight into what it might have been like for my mom growing up as an orphan because of being mixed race. @bookstodon @audiobooks

Finally getting around to listening to 'Van Gogh audio book, a 44 hour listen. It was one of my last choices before I cancelled my audible subscription. Now it's mostly library audio books. I couldn't easily have fit 44 hours of listening into a 21-day library borrow.

Shield Maiden by Sharon Emmerichs (3.5 stars)

A kind of retelling of the end of the Beowulf saga. Here, the king's niece, Fryda, is made the hero and her twin brother, Wiglaf, is the villain.

Though much of the story was predictable (even for those unfamiliar with Beowulf), the was entertaining.

I’m via Devil’s Bride ( 1/Cynster but 2nd chronologically). I think I first this in 2009 when it was released & have listened to it before, too. When reading on paper or ebook, it’s possible to skip the epically long sex or nearly-sex scenes - pretty sure one of them lasts over 20 pages. This one is neither my favorite nor my least favorite of the Cynsterverse. @romancebooks

I’ve finished listening to the Rajmund by DB Reynolds ( 3/Vampires in America). It’s my least favorite book in my most favorite series. The series is why I fic. Not sure why I’m not all that fond of Sarah & Raj, but I think it’s all the thoughtless things that come from both their mouths (same as mere humans do so often). @romancebooks

I’ve finished #reading The Promise In A Kiss by Stephanie Laurens as an #audiobook. This is the 1st #book chronologically in her epic #cynster series that is still going on decades later. Manipulative English Duke & manipulative French aristocrat work to outplay manipulative French guardian in this pre-regency #historical #romance. A repeat for me. #read #books #romancelandia #bookstodon

I've finished: Waking Gods

I'm not a big fan of full cast audiobooks. I don't like dramatizations. However this format suits this trilogy perfectly.

It is hard to write a whole novel that is made up entirely out of records and recordings, let alone a trilogy. Eventually the format is stretched to the breaking point of my credulity. However it is also a fast, personal and exciting way to tell a story. I couldn't put it down.

I’ve re- The Martian by Andy Weir. Still enjoying it immensely. I have the original narrated by Bray, not the current version by Wheaton. This space remains one of my favorite of adulthood, and one of the first we were able to share with the 19yo when she became an avid reader & a space science buff. The movie is fine, but the is so much better. @bookstodon
