@NickEast@writers@writingcommunity@writing@humour We're watching an anime and we're like, "it's about time to lose somebody, isn't it?" and a character says something and we're all "Oh, no! Flag! Flag!!" and, yep, the music turns ominous.
Still - as highlighted at the end of the article - the service will be terminated by November 1 for the legacy format *mobi. And I bet quite a few of us still have *mobi files on our drives or somewhere else.
Yes, yes - I know you can manually transfer files via cable. (Or by converting *mobi to *epub via 3rd party software.) Still, I think terminating this service is a bad business decision re: legacy users.
@NickEast@writers@writingcommunity@writing@humour Believe it or not, they used to make the cards for solitaire out of, well, cardboard. 😉 Writers were known for the flapping sounds that came from their desks.
AI is a problem for editors and authors – and it's serious.
There is a dark side to this technology, with major long-term consequences for authorship and editorial work that we're only just beginning to discover – not least copyright theft.
IIRC the difference between Bing's integrated AI and others is that it cites actual sources from the search engine, so it's less prone to inaccuracy/hallucination?
Is there currently any facility within search engines to opt out or deactivate AI, or is it built-in as standard, requiring consent to use it?
And does it train itself from searches? Happy for more info!

So it's about the adventures of The Legendary Cousin's Friend? I like that. Not just like the idea, but I'll implement it. No idea how but must be done! =)
@AuthorHelp@authorindiespeak@writingcommunity this is interesting, because in my experience, "review bombing" has been used by authors to co-ordinate a wave of positive reviews in the first week of publication on a platform, so they can claim that they are a "best-selling" author. That and very targeted endorsements.
But as the article states, negative review bombing certainly happens too. As well as the highly-publicised cases, I've seen authors claim that they've been the target of negative review campaigns.
Poor people probably didn't get a lot of stories published. That's why they don't start: "I was sentenced to three months in the insane asylum for being poor." 🤔
Last thing I want to be doing when watching an old detective movie and suddenly bam, rampant homophobia and someone being murdered for being gay and the protagonist being a ok with it.
Censorship, no thanks. Having a heads up on horrible shit, yes
Years ago, I’d bought a tall stack of used Martha Grimes Inspector Jury books and began reading through them. One day I thought, “Why do I feel so depressed?”
