This is a sumptuous piece of linguistic worldbuilding, that explores the relationship between subjectivity and collectivity, through well-imagined characters and exciting plotting. #books#bookstodon#sf#sciencefiction@bookstodon
Dang, Seth Dickinson's 'Exordia' switched genres real fast there!
We started with an introspective, meditative ontological-philosophical character-based meeting of minds, and now suddenly aliens are dropping bombs and EMPs are razing civilization to the ground and we're in a military sci-fi rah rah defend against the invading aliens hoo-wah! thriller.
Sooo excited to see this book nearing its day in the spotlight! Kaisa was a delight to supervise as a PhD student, and we had so many wonderful conversations about things #enactive while she was writing.
The third book on my September TBR was Mickey7 by Ashton Edward.
This is a bit of an odd one. While I enjoyed the world-building in this, I had troubles really identifying with Mickey7. It doesn't help that the moment to moment plot isn't all that complex or interesting to begin with. The writing style is fine and easy enough to read but I'm missing really fun moments in here. Everything about this book feels 'good enough'. Had I read it in a different month, I guess I would have liked it more. Three stars only.
I am already 60% in on The Mote in God's Eye by Niven and Pournelle, and it's been fantastic so far. I haven't really read a "first contact" novel other than Contact Harvest from the Halo franchise.
It's day two of the giveaway and we're off to a strong start, with a dozen new readers picking up their copies of "Shards" to begin their journey along "The Nod/Wells Timelines," but we can do better! 📘🙂👍
„Der vierte Mond“ ist ein intelligenter SF-Roman, der sich mit dem einsamen Überlebenskampf im All und dem gnadenlosen Verbrauch der Ressource Mensch beschäftigt. Die, die der Finsternis und Stille ins Angesicht blicken und ihre Leben riskieren, sind auf der Erde nur noch eine Last, doch letztlich kommt es auf manche von ihnen immer noch an.
#SciFi books are rare in school even though they help kids better understand science
#ScienceFiction can lead people to be more cautious about the potential consequences of innovations. It can help people think critically about the ethics of science. Researchers have also found that sci-fi serves as a positive influence on how people view #science.
The #Kindle edition of "Shards" is now available for #free on Amazon's various international storefronts. This will be the case until October 4th, so get while the getting's good.
We're just a day away from the start of my latest book giveaway, so I wanted to share the following image, which shows how the stories in "Shards" relate to the other works from "The Nod/Wells Timelines." Hopefully, this will give everyone some useful context, and some ideas about which other books of mine to explore if they enjoy their time with "Shards."
Note that you can always find the most up-to-date version of "The Nod/Wells Timelines" via my official web site:
Okay, now I want to know if there are any academic journals devoted to speculative fiction. I know there are the anthologies like BtVS and Philosophy (or the book I have on my TBR, the Religions of Star Trek).
If there isn't, must look up what it takes to start one, because that would certainly fall under the umbrella of something I'm working on.
Our dreampunk saga flies onward! "Guardian" (Glitch 14) defensively hovers over the increasingly intertwined lives of a ragtag bunch of denizens in cyberpunk hellhole NYC.
Glitch 14 is part of our Patron-exclusive bonus series of weekly bonus tales. It pairs with 14. "Bee". (The #'s always match).
