The Solarpunk short story collection I'm part of has been released yesterday at the biggest bookfair of Luxembourg. It has been a surprising success and I think the first edition will be sold out by the end of today. It's only 100 copies, but it was very hard to gage how big interest would be.

I'm very proud to be part of that first issue and hope I make it into the second one as well...

If you want to check out what the Science-Fiction and Fantasy writers of this small country can produce, go to https://anerwelten.lu

It's completely free and a lot of stories are in English.

@ocken @bookstodon Not to the new one yet. Also, it's in Luxembourgish, so of little use to you.

Finished Legends and Lattes this morning. The last 20-30 pages really picked up the pace and boosted the book's overall rating from 3.5 to 4. A very fun and relaxing read, without too much depth or plot. But that can be allright too!

Maybe I'll pick up the new book by the same author too. Anyone started with that already?

"Our past is red" by Catherynne M. Valente is a really fun and depressing read.

Yes, both can be true at the same time.

Turns out the post apocalypse can be hilarious.

🌟 "Across the Green Grass Fields" by Seanan McGuire

🌟 "The Past is Red" by Catherynne M. Valente

🌟 This Is How You Lose the Time War" by Amal El-Mohtar

What's on your's? :neocat_book:

The fourth and last book of my September TBR was Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.

Being more of a Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror reader, reading historical fiction focusing on a single family is really outside my comfort zone. Yes, I read plenty books during my literary studies, but in my free time, I rarely touch other genres. This book teaches me that it's well worth having a look at new things. It was a deep and emotional experience, simply the best book I read this year so far. Full five stars.

The second book on my September TBR was Stephen King's Pet Sematary.

I plan on reading all of Stephen King's books at some point, but Pet Sematary was very high on my To-Do-List, as its reputation was really good. Let's say I was not disappointed: The pacing was great, the writing style grabbed me even though it was quite dense for my taste. Never lost the plot or sight of the characters, which is always a huge danger with me. I even enjoyed the ending, which is not a given with King. A four star book for me, happy to have read this!

@yon @bookstodon I also never saw the movie, though I try to avoid Stephen King adaptations overall.

The third book on my September TBR was Mickey7 by Ashton Edward.

This is a bit of an odd one. While I enjoyed the world-building in this, I had troubles really identifying with Mickey7. It doesn't help that the moment to moment plot isn't all that complex or interesting to begin with. The writing style is fine and easy enough to read but I'm missing really fun moments in here. Everything about this book feels 'good enough'. Had I read it in a different month, I guess I would have liked it more. Three stars only.

September is over and I managed to read all the books on my TBR! Time to take a look back.

The first book was Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Even if my trackrecord with her is a bit mixed, I really loved this book since I could easily identify with the main character. The Noir-plot, setting and mood perfectly hit the spot for me. It was a quick read for me and the first 5-star book of the month and year!

Reading Pet Sematary for the first time while y'all be reading King's latest is a very special kind of mood.

How are you enjoying it so far?

Couldn't sleep and decided to do some more reading.

I just finished Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and it's a huge surprise to me but this is m first 5-star book of the year. I loved the mood, the noir plot and characters. I could immediately identify with the main character being stuck in that small village and the conservatism.

I'd never have thought I would enjoy this book this much, but that's what I love about reading. Sometimes it just surprises you.

I present to you: my September TBR! I think it's pretty reasonable but then again I'm cheating and starting today with Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Not shown is my digital TBR which consists of Gideon the Ninth of which I have read three quarters already.

Really looking forward to Pet Semetary by Stephen King. Heard very good things about Pachinko but the size scares me a bit.

I've never done this, so I want to give this a shot.

9 Science Fiction books I like but would never try to actually rank:

The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick

Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty

Seven Eves by Neal Stephenson

Quality Land by Marc-Uwe Kling

The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy by Douglas Adams

The Dispossessed by Ursula K Leguin

To be taught if fortunate by Becky Chambers

Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I have no mouth and I must scream by Harlan Ellison

I have finished reading A Memory Called Empire. I am angry at this book. It decided to become quite good for the last 100 pages. And now I want to read the follow-up. 😂

I give it 3.25 Stars out of five. It was an uneven, but overall enjoyable read for me. I don't think I'll immediately jump to the next one though.

@lilliassh @bookstodon I keep wondering why nobody talks about it. It was nominated for a Hugo and is sometimes mentioned as being influentual, but outside of that I see little chatter about it.

@bookstodon The style, the narrative voice and a lot of dialogues come off as being way too dry in my opinion. I think that's the reason why this does not click with me. The setting and the linguistic angles it takes are impressive, but I never feel enticed by those factors to read even more. And I severely doubt I will pick up the second part.

@theotherotherone @bookstodon I totally get it with the tiring out when reading one book all the time. There are very few books where I did not need a short story or Novella to break it up.

@ampersand @bookstodon I find mixing fiction and non-fiction to be quite easy. And yes, mixing physical and ebooks makes sense to me too.

I manage to read a chapter per day of A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine. It is a good book, but the prose somehow is difficult to read... at least to me. Well, at least that way I'll manage.

@elysegrasso @bookstodon does depth imply grimdark? I think Becky Chambers last novella duology showed you xan have cosy entertainment mixed with some deeper elements.
