#TTRPG memory
Our eldest had a 13th birthday during the pandemic lockdowns. So we organised an online #DoctorWho RPG for him and some friends.
They played Torchwood operatives, and at the start this woman appeared. She gave them some information, warned them not to harm the creature ("I know what you Torchwood people are like!"), then disappeared.
It was some minutes later that they realised they'd had a call with The Doctor. Their reactions were fantastic :)
@shauny the only two seasons I haven't seen a single story from! I still have yet to really vibe with the third Doctor, so I've only seen some of his era.
Favourite so far: Spearhead from Space
Least favourite: probably The Mind of Evil
Part of the SF Masterworks Collection. Despite being nearly 60 years old the narrative around the manipulation of the truth feels incredibly prescient. Wondering whether David Whitaker had read it before he came up with #DoctorWho story The Enemy of the World. #Books#Bookstodon#SciFi#PhilipKDick
The McCartney Legacy Volume 1: 1969-73 by Allan Kozinn & Adrian Sinclair
Absolutely loved this. I’m a huge McCartney fan and not only did I enjoy reading about his early post-Beatles career in minute detail, but it was also great to revisit those early solo and Wings records with the added context the book offers. Heartily recommend to any other fans and I look forward to future volumes.
A novel combining war, cricket and a battle for love. Enjoyed this. It’s jolly in places and then hits you with a bleaker reality. Helps to love cricket as much as I do I would imagine given its importance in the story.
this season of Doctor Who is going to require so much suspension of disbelief. 🫣 It is absurd, but it doesn't mock itself unlike the Marvel's brand of humour. It's unserious, but sincere and I have forgotten that type of treatment exists.
The first of three special episodes of "Doctor Who" will land on the BBC and Disney+ on Nov. 25. GQ talked to Ncuti Gatwa, who will take over as the Doctor at the end of the run, about how he feels. “I’m a good actor [but] this is a 60-year-long British institution and I’m a Black man, so I never thought that I’d be chosen to front something that is basically the heart of the BBC,” he says.
