What’s the BBC up to in the Fediverse? What have they learned so far from their experiments? And how is all this like the early days of the internet? In the latest episode of Dot Social, Flipboard CEO @mike chats with @Ianforrester, Senior Firestarter at @BBCRD. (How cool is that title, btw!)
Ultimate Fucking Championship (2011) - Bishop invited me to check out a UFC Event taking place in Toronto so when he showed up early at my hotel room we decided on our own UFC Match! The "Ultimate Fucking Championship" #Interracial#BBC#QueenOfSpades#Fucking#Blowjob#BigTits#PAWG#MILF
I’ve been reading some of the criticism of the BBC creating their own Mastodon instance. Those against fall mostly into “they promote Transphobia” or “they skewed Brexit coverage” Both seem fair.
BBC creating an instance is good for Fediverse. Period. Just because they are on your street doesn’t mean you have to invite them in for tea or read/boost their posts / support them at all
BUT - If BBC fails no one else you DO want to read will follow here.
The BBC joining Mastodon with its own instance is a positive move that I hope other media orgs will follow. It is a chance for the Fediverse to further develop and become more widely adopted.
Months after @tagesschau and @ZDF from Germany, yet still one of the earlier public broadcaster here on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse: The #BBC has arrived.
Also with their own instance, just as pioneered by @heiseonline 😉
"After my last long post, I got into some frustrating conversations, among them one in which an open-source guy repeatedly scoffed at the idea of being able to learn anything useful from people on other, less ideologically correct networks. #explore on Mastodon is a good way to find stuff you wouldn’t see on your own feed. (It’s how I found this article.)
And there are various bots that allow you to follow people on Twitter (birdsite.makeup etc). Although my instance has decided they don’t like that so it’s a bit harder to find them than it was.
But yes, I think the article does a good job of articulating the problems. I hope they get solved because there’s a lot I like very much about Mastodon but it does not have the depth and breadth of content (yet). And hashtags do not work well enough as a replacement for search (I followed #BBC to get more news in my feed and ended up with a bit of news and a lot of porn).
The thing about Merlin (as in bbc merlin) is that i clearly remember being a merwaine shipper but i havent watched it in long enough that ive kind of forgotten why merwaine specifically? But Gwen/Morgana, especially early seasons, always stays
This may be largely because i developed a bit of a crush on katie mcgrath while watching merlin the first time
Interesting #news values on the #BBC site just now- a performance at #pop#festival is apparently more important to us than how the #UK government responds to the #crisis in nuclear armed #Russia. And a bit further down, another performance at the same festival is more newsworthy than policy developments in the #SNP, a party seeking the breakup of the UK. I don't know who pockets the profits at #Glastonbury, but they must pay their #PR bods plenty to get this stuff reported as "news"
