The House by the Sea, one of ’s several journals; it’s a treat. She’s such a good writer, but the occasional gems from her life are also very interesting. An example: her passing reference to as a tenant in a house where she once lived, who loved “a small ashtray covered with butterflies.” Nothing else said — it’s just an idle recollection as she packs up mementos from a house she once shared with Judy Matlack. @bookstodon

August slipped away without my noticing, so below is a belated update on the books I read last month:

Children of Ruin by Tchaikovsky, 3 stars

Feet of Clay by Pratchett, 5 stars

Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Brontë, 4 stars

Take What You Need by Novey, 4 stars

Jingo by Pratchett, 4 stars

The Feather Thief by Johnson, 4 stars

The Lady in the Tower by Weir, 3 stars

A good mix of my pet genres (fantasy and sci fi) with some nonfiction mixed in. @bookstodon

@hawksquill @bookstodon Jeebers! How do you read so many! I'm lucky to get through two books a month. Sometimes not even one, and I read every night.

From “Reading Milosz”
by ADAM ZAGAJEWSKI

You always wanted to go
beyond poetry, above it, soaring,
but also lower, to where our region
begins, modest and timid.

Sometimes your tone
transforms us for a moment,
we believe—truly—
that every day is sacred,

that poetry—how to put it? —
makes life rounder,
fuller, prouder, unashamed
of perfect formulation.

? I His Forgotten Bride by Aydra Richards, an amnesia story, yay!. My third by her and I'm really enjoying them; nice to be able to read historical romance again. She's kind of old fashioned but not Old Skool, if that makes sense.

Fridays are for dark chocolate peanut butter fudge. I stopped eating most sugar & processed stuff 6 yrs ago (I make this with stevia & 90% chocolate), so finding a dessert that I love so much was a big thing.

Read a bit more of my book club’s next book today, so far so good.
Happy Friday ❤️

Continuing my prep for Sea of Tranquility by re-reading Emily St John Mandel's backlist... or, at least, the two novels I'm familiar with. In July, I read Station Eleven for the 3rd time. Now I'm on a re-read of The Glass Hotel. I was struck by this:

"(Idea for a ghost story: a woman gets old and falls out of time and realizes that she's become invisible.)"

Was the author thinking out loud? Because I would totally read that story. @bookstodon

Looking for a quick read to hit off the spooky season? The Red Knight is a quick mystery set in the fictional duchy of Graystoke. Follow the Inquisitor Diane as she investigates the disappearance of a court official.

The truth of the mystery could be quite bloody.

Hey , have you come across any books with misleading and / or bad blurbs? Please share!
I just finished Wole Soyinka's "Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest Peopleon Earth" and.. that book has a misleading blurb with a big spoiler. Wish I hadn't read the blurb. (Good book, though. More on that later.)

And of course, still working through 'Character Arcs'.

I've got three books on the go, enjoying them all. Reread of an old favourite, Moving Pictures ()- funny, of course, nice bits of details from real Hollywood history snuck in, and quite a few "oh yeah, Gaspode the Wonder Dog is from this one!" moments.
What If? 2 by Randall Munroe, brilliant stuff.
Ghost Hunters Adventure Club And The Secrets of the Grande Chateau, a spoof YA mystery, slight but fun. @bookstodon
