My ecofeminist stylistics article turned into an ecofeminist semiotics article and one of the journal's editors told me it still fell within its scope so to go ahead and send it in (journal's server has been resuscitated). So guess what I'll be doing tonight after I do the usual chores.

I did have a happy afternoon reading fairytale scholarship including 2 very riveting articles by Uther of ATU fame and found some other articles for my own personal research projects (remember the opera articles I'm writing?).

Very proud to have contributed to the #paper led by Tamara Ben-Ari et al. from @labos1point5 analysing the ~ 130 000 #academic #travels from ~160 #research units in #France over 2019 and discussing their #carbon emissions. Most importantly, the paper reports various #mitigation strategies and quantify their potential for reducing their #CarbonFootprint.

Mitigation potential of modal shift from plane to train as a function of distance. Vertical lines correspond to median time travel by train and rectangles express the uncertainty related to train speed, with 150 km/h±60 km/h. The three numbers indicate key routes in France with 1: Paris-Toulouse, 2. Paris-Montpellier and 3. Paris-Nice, contributing respectively to 14%, 7% and 16% of total domestic GHG emission from air travel.
Percentage of total (plane, train, car) travel-induced GHG reductions from single or combined options. Colors represent the intensity in GHG mitigation potential with yellow options offering the greatest potential. Each column corresponds to a specific modal shift policy, characterized by a threshold distance(and average travel time), below which a complete shift from plane to train is assumed. Modal shift options are always applied first. Each line corresponds to a specific air travel moderation policy applied at research unit scale. Moderation options are expressed in missions (equivalent to a round trip) and modal shift are considered per segment (equivalent to a one way trip). Options which correspond to actual per-capita per-year research unit median are presented at the third modality in each moderation option (i.e.,1 conference every 3yrs, 1 trip every 4 years, 5,800 km and 1 trip per yr).

The website for the journal I was going to submit to on Saturday is still dead and in the meanwhile I realized that what I, and my co-writer (MA student who successfully defended her fairytale studies dissertation last year) were looking at fits more into semiotics than stylistics.

Back to the drawing board, then. But am almost done and hope to submit by week's end. Then, one more co-authored article, then I'm going to focus on my sole-authored work for a bit. (trust me, I'd rather just do my sole-authored work but this uni's policies... and it's also a good thing to give my supervisees a leg up, I guess.)

In other news, hello Masto, I'm exhausted.

I'm kind of resigned that I worked through the four day weekend.

And semester starts tomorrow here in my neck of the woods.

I'll be spending the week prepping for classes which I'm only going to start on the second week because the first week's usually orientation stuff. But at least I've got three articles submitted and the fourth will go in once the server comes back to life. Probably tomorrow.

For this evening, music practice, and for the week. I'm gutted by the ending of and join fans in being outraged at the finale. Didn't expect the series to make this big of an emotional impact on me.

Greatly reduced time on social media the past two-three years has resulted in better quality of life. I've also been playing more games, which brings great stress relief as well as enjoyment.

Yesterday, because I couldn't log into the article uploading system on an academic journal's platform (the entire server crashed), I de-stressed by returning to Pokemon Go for the first time in years (the gps stopped working on my ipad, back in the day). Delighted to discover that in that time there have been three shrine-stops established in my high density condominium compound. Unlimited supply of pokeballs, all through my bedroom and living room!

Since it doesn't exist, apparently, starting a new hashtag for

Love it when problems solve themselves.

I was trying to figure out how to teleport in order to fit in a meeting with many busy people, that could only be at that one specific time which is inconvenient but not impossible for me so I said "yes".... and now the meeting has been moved to a time much easier for me.

@academicchatter

I'm finding a negative correlation with the number of full professors present and the likelihood that a meeting will actually take place without being moved at least once.

This negative correlation is exacerbated wildly if a dean is to be present.

(disclaimer: I do realize everyone is doing what they can. This is about too many meetings at all levels of academia.)

Hey @sociology - can folks help my students get to a conference? A grad student and three undergrads I'm working with have had their work accepted to the Social Science History Association in November. We're an under-resourced MSI, and only need to raise a couple thousand dollars to get us from Chicago to DC. Every donation counts! Our Venmo is @UIC. THANK YOU!!!
