After the sad dearth of Grier that was Fortress 2, I went back to the peak of the exploitation era and watched The Arena (1974), which is indeed ‘Female Spartacus’. So much so that Spartacus is explicitly referenced in the dialogue....
Are there any of other communities on the fediverse with active film discussions? I loved /r/movies official film discussion threads but can’t find their alternatives here
Your opinion on trailers is nothing new and you’re not wrong. But then you went and chose MEG 2 as your example??? 🤔 Like that movie was an Agatha Christie mystery or something?! 🤣
I originally saw this movie during a late night TV marathon for all the movies these two actors made together. I fell in love with them as an acting duo and recommended a few of their movies to multiple people. But years passed and I eventually forgot their names and the title of the movie....

Yeah, we’re on the same page. One thing I found amusing is that you had to specify which Justice League, like it mattered. 😂 Is one more or less realistic or processed than the other?
The Ocean’s Eight posters, regardless of which, all suffer from the same flaw: all of the actresses are culled from separate photo shoots/sources. After all the resizing, color correction and conforming, it’s inevitable they look as processed as an individually-wrapped cheese slice. Cheers!
I’ve started watching Westerns lately. I’ve watched the first hour of The Outlaw Josey Wales, very good stuff. So I have some sound films my list like Stagecoach, Searchers, Once Upon a Time in West, Lawman and Dodge City; but what about the silent era? I’ve only seen The Great Train Robbery from that part, what else would...
Then there’s the films of Broncho Billy, the first Western movie star, and his competition William S. Hart and Tom Mix. I’ve no particular recommendation for any of these cowboy movies as they’re all pretty short and you could see a handful in less than an hour.
Once you get into Gene Autry, John Wayne and Roy Rogers, you’re in the sound era (circa 1929). At that point, see anything by the late, great John Ford, pardner!

…the Lego Batman movie is better than Citizen Kane.
Wow. That has got to be the most punk rock thing I’ve read in a while! My sincerest compliments! 🙇 I’m almost envious I hadn’t said it first!
…I have no idea why this one gets so much recognition to this day.
Judging by the list that preceeds your audacious statement, that while I don’t necessarily agree with all of your choices, it appears you’re a person of a certain sensibility regarding film. With that, I say confidently, don’t worry. One day you will understand why Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane is considered seminal cinema.
BTW, I thought The Lego Batman Movie was cute. AFI 100 Greatest American Films material, no. Cheers!
I was gonna post a rant railing against this obvious money-grab (shilling, product placement, half the budget is marketing/promotion blah blah blah) when, utilizing my encyclopedic memory of the moving image, I realized this type of “cinema” is nothing new. The only real difference is that now it is no longer an afterthought but an integral part of the plan, an efficient, organized, concerted cross-media marketing ploy. It’s not meta, it’s nostalgia rationalization; it’s not smart, it’s calculated.
For the last few years franchise movies like star wars, marvel, etc. made money regardless of quality. However now it seems like audiences are being choosier when it comes to these kinds of tentpole releases. I’ve seen some people online say that the movie/theater industry is losing people in general but I don’t think...
Fun fact: did you know that the (then) new distribution strategy invented for the iconic film The Godfather gave rise of the Blockbuster (and thus “franchise movies”) and the near-death of auteur cinema?

What's with movie posters of actors making them look like CGI wax works?
Noticed a trend in recent years of the advertising material heavily editing the actors to beyond anything they even look like. It looks ridiculous.
