Writing the magazine article on rum that's been kicking about my desk for a while now. It's grown so bitty that I've just shifted over from my usual app (Drafts 5) to Scrivener to help organise my sections and make sense of it all.

Hopefully I can turn it from bits into something more cohesive. It's already helping being able to see it all in one go.

I thought editors and writers were natural enemies? 😜😆

While I am slumbering, everyone should take the prime opportunity to roast my current author bio. Yes, this is being sent whenever asked:

Gary James writes for many quality publications, and quite a few that are not. He lives in chaos, with his books and ghosts.

Every author has to face this down at some point in their writing journey.

Fear 😱

It can manifest as:

❓ Self-doubt
👻 Impostor syndrome
😳 Lack of confidence

Every creative has dealt with moments of insecurity, it's understandable – we're only human, after all!

The good news is that you can conquer it and get published.

Here's how 👇

This one is highly personal but is what I deal with daily as both a parent and writer. I aimed to give insight on and the different levels, Non-Verbal, meltdowns, and other disorders that can accompany parenting/caregiving someone with Also, the challenges as an author and tips at the very end!

Writing about and its . I've described the raw material, blackstrap molasses, as a "three-time loser in the sugar potential stakes".

I'm glad my brain retained this phrase as it unlocks a passage on why molasses is hard to deal with.

It first floated to the surface as I went to sleep last night. This is the graveyard of catchy ideas.

I should have written it down or made a note on my phone. I got lucky this time but you can't rely on that happening.

Two Drops
by ZBIGNIEW HERBERT

No time to grieve for roses, when the forests are burning.
-Juliusz Słowacki

The forests were on fire—
they however
wreathed their necks with their hands
like bouquets of roses
[…]
To the end they were brave
To the end they were faithful
To the end they were similar like two drops
stuck at the edge of a face

From his first book, Chord of Light (1956).Translated by Czesław Miłosz and Peter Dale Scott
