delial, in Solar activity is ramping up faster than scientists predicted. Does it mean an "internet apocalypse" is near?
@delial@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

No

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes, and this almost happened in 2012 except we got very lucky and the flare wasn’t facing towards us science.nasa.gov/science-news/…/23jul_superstorm

Crow, in Protests erupt in Paris after police officer fatally shoots teenager for ‘violating traffic laws’
@Crow@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve really been hoping for a sequel to Athena.

Raphael, in Aleksandr Lukashenko, the dictator who took credit for ending Wagner’s mutiny, explained
@Raphael@lemmy.world avatar

Great achievement for him, way to go Lushashenko! Too many people here were hoping for a bloodbath, in the name of God! Amen!

maporita, in Finland's new parliament votes for a nazi to stay as a minister - Lemmy.world

I was thinking it was just a right wing, anti-immigrant politician, not an actual Nazi. Then I went to check… holy hell.

mr_washee_washee, in Siemens Energy shares fell after the co. withdrew its fiscal 2023 profit guidance after it was discovered that components in wind turbines made by its subsidiary are wearing out faster than expected.

CanadaPlus, in Indigenous defenders of oil in the Amazon

Just goes to show, they’re not the theme park version of themselves that gets sold sometimes. These people have a full-blown human society as capable of making it’s way economically as the rest of us.

Showroom7561, in Global Constipation Treatment Market to Reach $27.5 Billion by 2030

Another side effect in a world that eats too much meat and dairy.

sliceable_aspirin, in Russian mercenary leader: 'We did not intend to overthrow government'

Such is life

shapesandstuff, in Myanmar authorities burn $446m in illegal drugs

Sounds like a rave

WaterWaiver, in New Zealand seeks to exterminate predators to save native birds

The rat trap pictured in the article is interesting. Small CO2 cylinder releases gas into a capture chamber.

From my basic understanding of mammal physiological responses to gases: wouldn’t nitrogen gas (as an oxygen displacer) be less stressful than CO2 (as an oxygen displacer)?

withersailor,

I didn’t look closely at the picture. The article was talking about crushing the head and dropping the body to decay on the ground.

lntl, in Draft EU plans to allow spying on journalists are dangerous, warn critics
@lntl@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You’ll have nothing to fear if you have nothing you need to hide

Followupquestion,

This is sarcasm, right? You might want to use a “/s” tag because tone is hard to parse in written form, and Poe’s Law is in full effect.

mr_washee_washee, (edited ) in Chinese drugmakers march into Africa

i wish i could follow ur feed. i hope this get implemented soon.

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

oh you actually can follow people via RSS already, e.g: lemmy.ml/feeds/u/yogthos.xml?sort=New

mr_washee_washee,

i have just learnt about the invention of a rss feed reader. and i added this url to the reader. and i am amazed by this technology lol thank you for the help :)

yogthos,

👍 RSS is really underrated tech

mr_washee_washee, (edited )

i mean, i am not that knowledgeable in tech. but singing up here i became aware that many of the users here are proficient in coding and overall software/ IT subjects, and i had to learn many stuff that made browsing instances here friendlier and learned alot more about degoogling (and actually disbaled chrome on my android lol) but still learning. i mean this place here feels like this is how the internet should be. free knowledge for all and finding any sort of media at the end of one’s fingertips. its amazing! also maybe i am asking too much at this point can u please tell me why i cant follow this profile’s feed lemmy.ml/feeds/u/inasaba.xml?sort=New ? maybe lemmy.ml overloaded or something ? the reader app keeps giving me errors. thank you a lot, again.

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh yeah, stuff outside the mainstream tends to attract more of a tech crowd. I suspect part of it is that it’s not as polished and people have to look for it. I definitely find Lemmy community is pretty great as well. Most people are pretty helpful. Very refreshing compared to Reddit. :)

And it looks like it’s a problem on the server end, but not clear what’s causing it. The URL does look right, but it gives a 502 error in the browser as well. @dessalines might know? :)

mr_washee_washee,

hopefully he would offer some assistance. ty for the guidance.

yogthos,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

No prob, and welcome. Glad to have you here!

pingveno, in Don't Replace News Editors With AI

There are some legitimate uses for AI in journalism. Say, a first pass to generate an article or do a copy edit. Or you can have it continuously trolling social media to recognize a new or developing news story. But like with other fields, it is simply going to take time to figure out how everything fits together.

Candelestine, in Ukraine managed to gain ground in Ukraine as Russia faced off against Russia in Russia
