TomatoSlayer, in Found this lodged in my cat's tail. It was well healed over by the time we found it.

Looks like an air rifle pellet.

I_Comment_On_EVERYTHING,

Definitely this. Not copper though looks like lead. Possibly steel. Humans really suck.

remotelove,

Air gun pellets are almost always lead. While steel pellets absolutely do exist, they are much less common. Steel tipped lead pellets are a little more common.

The tarnish and the way the pellet is deformed very much points to lead in this case.

That’s a pellet from an air pistol/rifle. It’s probably lead.

candyman337, (edited )

No they’re usually steel for air pistol pellets I was wrong

sik0fewl,

It's definitely lead. Had these growing up. You can see how it's deformed - that wouldn't happen if it was steel.

candyman337,

Good to know, thanks for the info.

matthewc, in Found this lodged in my cat's tail. It was well healed over by the time we found it.

Is that a bullet from a BB gun?

ma11en,

BB stands for?

sik0fewl,

Ball bearing.

JackbyDev,

Oh shit I can’t believe I never knew that.

batmaniam,

It didn’t. It’s a size of shotgun pellet. There’s BBB AA, you get the picture. BBs are well, close to “BB”.

histy,

BB guns use spheres, this is a pellet for a air rifle

    Yes, but specifically, this is a pellet, not a BB. Due to their shape, pellets typically have a faster speed and greater penetration. Pellets are also not used for “play fights”. You won’t find an airsoft sport rifle that will because it is incredibly dangerous. This wasn’t just someone with a Daisy. It moves this from “kid being irresponsible with a toy” to more likely “someone malicious actively trying to cause harm”.

    JackbyDev,

    If we want to get as technical as possible, the comment at the top said “bullet from a BB gun” so that still could be true lol.

    oddspinnaker,

    And is most likely correct, since it always seemed the most common pellet guns are pellet/BB air rifles

    fishos,
    @fishos@lemmy.world avatar

    Except it’s not a BB. It’s a pellet. BBs are round. Pellets are shaped like this.

    This sub is called “what is this thing?”. Not “what could this thing have come from”. We’re identifying the object, not what kind of rifle it could have come from.

    If you really want to be technical.

    JackbyDev,

    Never said it was a BB, never saying you said it was a BB, just a funny observation based on the exact wording of the top comment in this chain lol.

    Shooting BB? You know how to throw money.

    TheGreenGolem, in What are these in the sea?

    Fun fact: we call them “sea hedgehogs” in Hungarian.

    nieceandtows, in What is this chimney piece?

    I think this would go right above the stove to give a wide opening for the chimney to collect fumes from the stove

    Jerb322, in What is this chimney piece?
    @Jerb322@lemmy.world avatar

    Is it maybe a transition piece? Like for looks, so it’s not just a tube in a box.

    gamenac, in What is this chimney piece?

    It looks like some of the kits have an attic insulation shield included in them. They seem to be included for chimneys being run through a roof/ceiling. Is that possibly it?

    bstix, in What are these in the sea?

    Yes they look like sea urchin. However, the live ones look like the black shapes.

    Devi,

    Not all urchins look like that, there's a lot of different types

    krey, in Mexican/Southwest US stone tool. I think it might be for cooking?

    it reminds me a bit of a stone tortilliero, but it’s not as deep as they usually are. a tortillero is a round shaped container which helps keep tortillas warm during a meal. it usually has a lid, too.

    treadful,
    @treadful@lemmy.zip avatar

    What about a tortilla press? Put dough in it, place a flat rock on top, and now you got a tortilla.

    $20 says it’s a hand mill

    Mightymaxx,

    Oh that’s an interesting idea. But I would expect it have some kind of exit for the grain? I’m not sure.

    pigup,

    Smash corn, scrape off, repeat

    SturgiesYrFase,
    @SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

    You can see on the rim the different wear patterns where maybe they were grinding too much at the side. If that’s not a hand mill I’m not a Stone Mason.

    Mightymaxx,

    I think we solved it. Should there be another piece to it? Or did just use another stone?

    SturgiesYrFase,
    @SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar
    CADmonkey,

    I was picturing something more like a mortar and pestle but this makes more sense! It’s just like a mill you’d find in, well, a windmill, but smaller and hand operated.

    SturgiesYrFase,
    @SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

    Yeah, pretty much. It’s a solid design, not much reason to change it drastically.
