pewgar_seemsimandroid,

MrScottyTay,

What’s financial news doing here?

It’s been a year since I last used Tinder, just signed up yesterday ( but this time to socially experiment, and have a laugh at them Bio’s ) I know this thing won’t lead to any serious relationships, but this time I feel like the algorithm has gotten much much much worse, like I feel it’s trying hard NOT to match me with people of the same interests, and even when I set the distance to 60Km Max, it gives results from 500Km away, if I select males it gives me females… And so on…

Pregnenolone,

Their algorithm doesn’t incentivize dates, it incentivizes validation. Part of the gender spectrum is starting to realise that and rebel. People don’t want to pay $x to make someone else’s day better if there’s nothing in it for them.

Oh no! Charging men/masc-presenting people over 22 years old $30 to show up in people’s swipe queues and creating new tiers like Platinum and Select didn’t bring in the profits? What about the CYOA videos whose answers absolutely never influenced a single match?

Shit, maybe make a Diamond tier and raise prices 3x and acquire another competitor. Put banner and video ads in message threads. Oh, and make it even more difficult for people of color to find matches by continuing to drop their Elo score so it’s almost only white people in queues. That’ll fix it 🤡

Nobody wants to play an IRL Gacha game in a meta stacked against them just to have a chance at a relationship. It’s expensive, exhausting, and depressing. People are so much more than a fucking data point in an algorithm.

Franzia,

Genuinely taking advantage of and encouraging the collapse of spontaneous social interactions, playing into our deepest insecurities, and then charging us for it.

just_another_person,

Good.

Reap what you sow- make your free data harvesting product shitty and people will stop using it. The pandemic isolation is over and people are looking to make connections in person. Tinder and all the rest are designed to keep you from your perfect match unless you buy Tinder Gold Silver Platinum even though they know exactly who would be perfect for you. I’ve seen it myself in the past- I would be swiping and a perfectly fine profile would randomly disappear.

fraydabson,

So true. I am happy I met my SO on tinder. Doing that data chart to see the numbers of my using tinder vs the only match who I went on a date with. The numbers are not in our favor. Now didn’t they release a 500/m plan? It is crazy. I know how lucky I got.
