I just noticed firefish (running on Infosec.town and fedia.social) shows the number of replies and likes for posts in the timeline - that’s pretty neat. (And yes, I’m aware the counts are probably incomplete for posts not originating from someone on the same instance)
@jerry@bhawthorne If I recall correctly, this is on purpose, to reduce "point whoring" - that is, making clickbait content just for the sake of getting the numbers to go up.
In my opinion, those numbers (stars and boosts) should only be visible to the post author, if even that.
@jerry@bhawthorne
It shows some counts if you click or select a post. Screenshot from infosec using the Glitch theme. Or maybe I misunderstand something here🤔
@lfisk@bhawthorne in firefish, and in some mastodon mobile apps, the reply, boost, and like count are shown in the timeline without having to click on a post to see them.
@jerry
I see usually extern likes from eg Mastodon, Akkoma etc., but as far as I can see, likes given in Firefish don't seem to show up on Mastodon (web interface).
@jerry I've noticed that I seldom autoboost just because I can't see the boostcount outside of my own instance. So even if Mastodon was to implement the counts like the way you describe, I hope I can turn the feature off for my own health.
