@EU_Commission What do you want your money to look like or how do you want your money to look. PS do you need any editors for your social media accounts? 😉

@EU_Commission 🤔 hmmm...
actually it's not much how they look than how they are distributed in the first place that are our citizen concerns
could we also look at a "Quantitative Easing for Citizen" or other UBI instead of reflooding banks f.ex. ? then we would care about what's on the notes imho

@EU_Commission A rather banal survey. Great banknotes also have great designs and inspire through that. Think of the Swiss ones. Or the old Dutch Guilder ones. The current EU banknotes are bland and boring. Design by committee. And this somehow affects people’s perception of the institutions too.

@EU_Commission est ce que vous pensez que nous sommes complètement cons ? (Je veux choisir la fiscalité appliquée aux plus hautes revenus pas le dessin sur du papier-monnaie !)

@EU_Commission art is great but is bound to leave some countries unrepresented. But i feel like body parts like hands or mouths would just look ugly.

Then again what does my opinion matter when i barely use cash

@EU_Commission It's cool that we can give our opinion on this subject

@EU_Commission Hey ! This is propaganda : I am European and I'm fully aware that UE is the realm of the biggest bunch that exploited their fellow humans to get rich.

If we want to better ourselves we should begin by recognizing the wrongdoings of UE : anti-labour practice, autoritarism (Napoléon, Mussolini, Hitler), colonialism, slave trade, colonisation, ongoing genocides of foreign first nations (wayana people in Guyana), ecocides by greed ... and remind it on banknotes.

@EU_Commission I want images of wildfires and people freezing in winter, to remind politicians they must do better to fight climate change!

@EU_Commission other countries have already done the bird thing, it's pretty but unoriginal.

My two proposals:

  1. European values: embodied by women like

(Bit odd that for all the publicity you guys get out of you almost never mention the woman who created it against fierce opposition from member states governments who were and continue to be The Worst...)

If this toot represents how our money is used, I would rather smaller amounts for EU officials...

@EU_Commission it’s quite funny that the survey should be about including all the eu citizens in the decision process, supposedly every country matters but in the end, where I was supposed to pick my country, I was not able to find it. There were only like 10-15 countries to choose from and the option "Other EU country" which is honestly a bit insulting.

david_pilny,
@david_pilny@awscommunity.social avatar

@EU_Commission I am a big fan of the EU, I really liked this survey as well the ideas for the new Euro bank notes, however, I was really disappointed in the end where I couldn’t pick my country as if it doesn’t matter. I am a bit worried that when the new bank notes are designed, their design will supposedly represent Europe as a whole but actually will focus only on a handful of countries and people in the rest of Europe find it disheartening and disappointing

@EU_Commission I was meh about most of these until I got to the birds. Birds!!!

I hope if this wins, the 500 euro banknote features the bird most common in all European capitals: the humble pigeon. You can call it a dove for marketing purposes.

@EU_Commission The captcha tests are not at all inclusive. They are difficult to read, have no alternative mode (e.g. a spoken version), and the arithmetic excludes a significant proportion of EU residents - 24% of Europeans achieve below PISA level 2 in maths (https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Archive:Europe_2020_indicators_-_education&oldid=344842)

@EU_Commission I tried to start the survey but couldn't even find a way to answer the first question--I love, for example, the idea of hands for unity and making, but then in the second column the hands are suggested to hold the scales of justice. Scales have never been a particularly good (though they are popular) metaphor for jurisprudence, and hands holding scales is a very different symbol from hands weaving or making.

@EU_Commission Whatever you all come up with, it has to be better than our American money! We have the ugliest money on the planet. But it buys stuff, so I guess it's OK/

@EU_Commission the birds and rivers would be my favourite.

But more importantly.

🟢 Bright easily distinguished colours (keep the existing grey, red, blue, orange, green yellow but up the saturation slightly)

🟢 Tactile markers for the blind as an integral part of the design (put the value in Braille)

🟢 High security. Maybe polymer similar to current UK banknotes. With clear windows and maybe even holes in specific places

@EU_Commission Colourful, flowers, animals, something like that. Not those old, boring buildings that don't even exist. And there can't be a dispute between countries about those, can it?
