This seems to be much better

I have no idea how well this will work in practice; see the recent discussion here about the infrastructural problems with Linux accessibility. But I do know that @matt is an expert with years and years of #accessibility experience in the #a11y space. So it will at least be a step in the right direction: getting the right people...
NV Access is pleased to announce that version 2023.3 of NVDA, the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, is now available for download. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version, which is the last version compatible with Windows 7. This release includes audio updates and refreshable OCR. There are fixes for Braille,...
I am fully sighted. Had the weirdest dream that I was a game developer who made a classic roguelike game for braille devices, using letters as sprites so they would show up on those refreshable braile reader things. This doesn’t seem like the craziest idea, but since I am sighted and know literally nothing I need to know what...

I started taking a Linux course which recommends creating a virtual machine using Oracle Virtual Box. However this app doesn’t seem accessible, either with Jaws or NVDA. Has anyone found a solution? Is VMWare any better?
Pro tip: set your home instance, so links open there directly and you can subscribe from the sidebar. It’s possible to run into errors if the server doesn’t know the other one, but those should be resolved by refreshing.

I am a fully blind person and I occasionally record playing video games with my friends....
Techquickie, a rather popular YouTube channel affiliated with Linus Tech Tips, posted this video today about the evolution of accessibility features in the video game industry. It covers a bit of the early history and rough starts in terms of lacking basic quality of life improvements, such a subtitles, to more modern and...
Wondering if anyone actually knows (that is, not just guessing) why RP causes decreased contrast in one’s remaining central vision. I asked my retina doc and got an obviously BS answer that cones can’t distinguish contrast as well as rods. I am not a fan of doctors who don’t have the phrase “I don’t know” in their...
Resolved (see comments). Thank you very much!...
So, I need a learning curve. Hope Y’all got some patience. But, this can’t be anymore tough than a Commodors or BASIC, right? Lol Cheers!
As the title says. I’m not doing bad, this seems like it may finally be stable-ish. I’m typing this with my braille display because I can actually use it on this platform unlike on reddit which is nice.
Hi there,...
my friend, rapunzel wants approval of her account, as she created it and wants to use it.
BE Hi all, as title states, my parent has Stargardt’s disease and I am trying to find a TV that best suits that condition. Unfortunately at this time, he doesn’t use accessibility features like voice commands or text-to-speech type tools. I think that may be revisited in the future....
I’ve been living with Stargardt’s disease since I was 9, and it’s deteriorated to the point that I can’t read physical books or papers, and I pretty much have to use my computer for everything with magnification and screen reader software....
Hi everyone,...
Will accessibility tools that rely on automating input to the browser cause it to become untrusted? Will it affect extensions? The spec does currently specify a carveout for browser modifications and extensions, but those can make automating interactions with a website trivial. So, either the spec is useless or restrictions will...
I am wondering if there’s a rapid way to switch between two voiceover voices. The only method I know involves going to settings-voiceover-speech-voices-scroll down etc. etc. etc., which is really too much. I’m thinking there must be an easier way, either using a customize rotor, or just telling Siri.
