I am very curious and want to help to make Linux more accessible....
Saw this online elsewhere and figured I’d share here for discussion
As the holidays are warming up, let’s share our suggestions and idea requests for gifts for our blind and VI family and friends....
So playing visual novels written in Ren’Py has become my latest momentary obsession. I figured I’d create a thread to post my thoughts on the few I’ve played, and see if anyone else has played any good ones. If you have, let me know in the comments! I really want to hear what everyone is enjoying....
As a blind man, I know I am usually attracted to the sound of a woman’s voice. It’s usually just the way they say a specific word or syllable, like “uh huh”. However I find this almost never happens with people in the “real world”. It only happens with voice actors, other performers, and people who are completely...
I figured I should share some of my thoughts on this. Think what you will about my perspective or decisions and formulate your own - we should all get to act on our values.
I gave my best effort to make a post on a Lemmy instance accessible to the visibly impaired, but I don’t know if what I did was effective. Lemmy doesn’t provide for alt text on image posts, so I figured I would put it in the body of the post. It seem that rind.com hasn’t had much activity. Is Lemmy simply not workable for...
Dealing with the same old questions from people who don’t get us was one of the hardest things about the other site. At one point, it was easier to create a rule against them, than it was to foster communication and awareness....
As the r/Blind mod team announced on July 1st 2023, Reddit has made it impossible for blind people to moderate on mobile. We’re bringing you this post to update the community on the developments since that time....
pixelated r/blind Snoo and text with Reddit app logos below it and parts of fuck spez above it, p.d in a corner
Would avoid anything on that server where possible until we hear an all clear...
I’m looking into a new braille display, and since I prefer a QWERTY keyboard over braille input, I’m a little interested in the Mantis Q40. Does anyone own it and use it with iOS? any quirks to know about? Does the QWERTY input actually work with iOS? (I own an apex QT where it doesn’t.) www.aph.org/product/mantis-q40...
I’m an indie web developer that’s finishing up an app I’ve been building over the past three years, a platform to advocate for Medicare For All. One of my top priorities is ensuring the app is accessible to everyone. It gets a perfect score on Google Lighthouse for Accessibility, but accessibility isn’t just a checkbox...

hello friends of rblind. I am a sighted person who follows the kbin-core repo. I saw an issue #1143 opened recently regarding the use of alt in markdown. I am having a hard time discerning whether it is a productive request or not....
A few weeks ago I read The Dream Master, a scifi novel that deals with dreams and virtual reality that has a blind character in it. The portrayal of blindness was… not great, but something that struck me about it was that for a futuristic setting, it lacked imagination for what technology could look like for the blind. The...
Hi everyone,...
“ In October, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on a core recourse for protecting disabled people’s civil rights: The ability to sue private businesses for inaccessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act.” motherjones.com/…/disability-testers-keep-busines…
I’ll keep this short, as I’m merely testing this Lemmy thing out, especially the accessibility compared to the way ReddIt used to work before their recent changes. I’m curious to know if there’s any accessibility gotchas I should be aware of before I get bitten… Thanks, and that’s all from me for now.
A little off topic for most of us here on RBlind but still worth posting for our instances Admins/Mods if no one else....
heya people, anyone has a guide dog? any experiences? what I should know?
Not sure if anyone would be interested, but the Internet Archive has a huge collection of old time radio shows from the 1930s and 40s especially. These include dramas, mysteries, horror, comedy, etc. Unfortunately, the website isn’t super voiceover friendly, but it’s possible to use. Anyway, thought I’d toss this out...
I just installed the Be My Eyes app (android). I was disappointed to find that the app did not recognize my system settings for dark mode and adjust accordingly. I am photo-phobic and the default bright white color scheme is unusable for me. I tried to adjust using Android’s accessibility option to toggle to an inverted color...
my dad is blind....
I’m honestly not sure what I’m hoping to do with this post. Maybe just see if others have had similar experiences. I’ve needed glasses my whole life, ever since I was a little kid, and my terrible eyesight has always been a running gag. I thought it was normal for my eyes to hurt all the time and my sight to get blurry and...
