I am really have inflamed vocal cords. I can't speak and because of my sinuses, one of my ears feel 'blocked', so even music is out of the the question.

But when I get back to stereo, could you recommend me some from 1960's and up?

I really love Mastodon, my Heads place, you warm my heart.

the usual: tenor sax, flute, oboe.

the start of "In the Evening" is oboe
(well it's not tenor or flute 🙂 )

@kompaktkiste @jazz @vinylrecords They do such a good job on those (and the BN Classics). Great titles at a reasonable price. The Classics are cheaper but I like the gatefold on the Tone Poets. Great series.

Sun Ra - Space is the Place,
the 2023 Verve By Request Third Man Pressing.

my first third man where quality control might have failed. some paper sticking in the vinyl between the run-outs. one minor tick, yet, ermm, not cool, for a €30+ product.

^replacing the paper sleeves is a no-brainer of course.
some are worse than others, almost abrasive & scratching hairlines on the vinyl.

i can understand if some mid nineties detroit techno release had them.

however a company putting vinyl-damaging cheap-ass sleeves into premium-priced jazz releases which entitle themselves "audiophile" is nothing less than a massive spit into paying collectors' faces.

yes, Verve / Third Man Records, i'm talking about you.

TheVinylApe ,
@TheVinylApe@masto.ai avatar

@kompaktkiste @Whiskeyomega @jazz @vinylrecords yeah sometimes those white chips of paper are just embedded in the vinyl and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Can you love any music after 5 minutes? That's all it took me when I first listened to Thelonious Monk's Underground many years ago. That sound really spoke to me.

It's difficult to choose just one Monk song to recommend, though. What is your favorite tune? #jazz @jazz

One of my favourite what if Miles stayed in a certain period albums is 'The Anti-Social Club' by Alan Pasqua.

It is In a Silent Way meets more bite. It has Cline, Amendola, Acuna, Haislip, Akinmusire and Jeff Elwood on saxophone. (What a lineup! Rich Breen mix is beautiful as well)

I do wonder what Miles inspired albums would you suggest?

How about this one: “London Brew” is a group of 12 London based artists: Benji B, Raven Bush, Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia, Tom Herbert, Shabaka Hutchings, Nikolaj Torp Larsen, Dave Okumu, Nick Ramm, Dan See, Tom Skinner and Martin Terefe. The group came together for a three-day recording session at The Church Studios in London in December 2020 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Bitches Brew.

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley was born on this day in 1928 in Tampa, FL. He and his brother Nat worked as teachers when they went to NYC in summer '55 to check out the jazz scene. The rest is history, as they say.

A favourite performance of mine, "Work Song", live in Japan 1962 w/Nat, Yusef Lateef, Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes:
