One of the things I love about hydrangeas is how long the blooms add interest in the garden. All of our varieties initially bloom white and usually stay that way for at least a few weeks. Then they "fade" to their other colors. The Annabelle hydrangeas are currently green, while some of the oak leaf hydrangeas have become a creamy light green or pink. Many of them will be golden brown in the fall.

MEMacLean,

@PJD65 @gardening I bought three of these this year and I am wondering if I cut them back at all in the fall? I live in a environment where it snows. Thank you.

@MEMacLean @gardening Not necessarily 'correct', but we don't cut ours back in the fall (zone 5). In the spring, any dead wood that didn't survive the winter gets pruned then. The Annabelle hydrangeas get pruned to about 12" tall in the early spring. That's it. They are pretty low maintenance 🙂
