For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....
Let me start saying my first approach with Linux was around 2000, the first distro I installed successfully was Debian, then moved to more user-friendly distros (at the time) like Knoppix and Fedora, and ultimately to Ubuntu. In the 2000’s I used Linux mostly for fun, do homework, and browsing. I used Knoppy for like a year...
Over the years, my photo library has been managed by numerous apps (Picasso, iPhoto, gthumb, etc) and stored in multiple cloud and local drives. As a result I have a number of duplicates that I’d like to eliminate for easier organization. Is there a FOSS app that would assist with this task?
Does anyone have any recommendations for good backup software? My use case is pretty simple. I have an external usb drive I want to backup to every so often. Both the source and backup drives are 8TB capacity (I’m not even close to using the full capacity yet)...
Just looking for a simple app that can stream local rstp. I have been using VLC up to this point but im looking for something a little less glitchy. I’d also like the ability to view multiple streams at the same time....
A good friend of mine just asked me if we can have a watch party in the upcoming days over the internet, so we can watch a movie together. They live in another country....
Hello everyone! For a while i’ve been using Okular, but I feel like the UI is a bit crowded and it’s difficult to change the appearance of the book itself. Are there any minimalist/simple epub readers for Linux (perhaps something akin to Apple’s “Books” app?)
Does anyone know of a self hosted media streaming service similar to Plex that will allow me to stream videos as audio only? Or better yet, to be able to sync/download them as audio only?...
Is there any android app or web app with movie ratings and reviews? Android app would be better. Alternative to imdb? I want to be able to fast check the rating of movie or list of actors. I know about wikipedia app but it’s interface is not focused on movies. Thanks in advance!
I’m a UX designer by trade and have some very basic knowledge of Python, HTML & CSS. I wanna get more involved with helping build FOSS projects, can anyone help point a development newbie in the right direction?
Too much $ to host videos from the sound of it. Too many instances vanish. Strict upload limits means it’s more suitable as a gif meme host for your element memes that you don’t care about than an actual YouTube alternative....
I have a fairly large music collection, which is 9.9 GB in size. It’s mainly made up of MP3 files, with some OGG Vorbis files and a handful of WAV and WMA files. I would like to convert the entire library to AAC (or a better format, if there is one) in order to reduce the size of my collection by a considerable amount....
I’m quite fond of this music player, but development has since ceased and I’ve been looking around for an active fork; does anyone happen to know of one?...
I’d like a way of sharing playlists that I make, but I don’t want to use Spotify or YouTube. Is there something free (as in freedom and as in cost) and open-source, which is better than burning a CD or sending someone a playlist.txt?
