@rickweinberg @edutooters @donwatkins I teach high school but many of my students have never had access to a computer before my class.

I feel strongly that mixed environments, such as provided by code dot org, that allow you to see the same code as both syntax and blocks can be helpful for developing competency. Scholars naturally move to syntax based programming for efficiency gains when they are ready with the support of being able to return to blocks for clarity.
