Recent research on a changing battle between parasite and host bird species. Fascinating how animals continue to adapt to the pressures on their population.
Saw xc2215x’s Mallard in the Road and it reminded me of this picture. I’d like to think mallard sits in silent judgement of those who do not return their carts.
Trogons are incredibly fun to find and photograph. This is the only individual black-headed trogon I came across this year.

I’ve had a lot of great birding days this year, but little compares to the sheer awe at watching 100,000+ snow geese lift off at once. Previously, I’d only seen three individual snow geese. I hope I get to experience this beauty and feeling again soon....

I always take a walk around the area my office is in during my lunch break. There is a cemetery not far away that borders a forest and I always go there to watch birds. I’d “seen” one of these before, but only in a “flying away during winter” kind of way. So, finding 8+ in a field this summer was wonderful! I love their little songs. Sparrows are one of my favorite groups of birds.
A lot of people probably already know this exists, but for those who don’t, there’s an awesome app that tells you what birds are around from their calls/songs. It’s called “Merlin”. You can also give it photos to ID. I usually leave it running in my pocket or hand while I walk around my local RSPB reserve.
