I’d prioritize as much RAM as you can afford. It’s shared between the CPU and GPU, and since you seem to have tasks that stress both, extra RAM would be beneficial.
Both the pro and max SoCs can support 2 external displays (max can support 4). The Max has more GPU cores, so some of your workflows will benefit from that.
I had never bothered with iCloud Mail before, but I started using it recently as a secondary mail account when they introduced custom domains.
It’s been fine so far, the service seems reliable, no spam problems, and it was easy to set up initially. I find the Apple Mail client good enough for my email needs so no issues with that, I can’t speak for how iCloud Mail works with other clients however.
It’s good enough that I may eventually switch to it as my primary email provider.
Apple wants this to be primarily for A/R - not V/R. V/R is inherently isolating to users and those around the users. A/R allows a person to be present in reality, yet it’s greatly enhanced. I think that’s what they are after.
E2E encrypted communication can be used for nefarious things, that's a fact. But it's something that needs to be standardized because the accessibility of any and all private communication or information to so few individuals can be used so much more nefariously. Really wish people were more concerned about data privacy. It's not about how your data will be use against you.... It's about how OUR data is used against US.
iPad Air. You’ll want more screen real estate and it comes with the M1 Chip. The newest Mini uses the A15 so you’ll likely get fewer years of updates with it.
But for school, I’d really recommend getting a laptop. Some classes require certain programs that may not work on an iPad or even an Apple Silicon Mac. For example, a lot of engineers recommend Windows laptops so they can use their school’s preferred 3D/CAD modeling software.
I would guess it will probably similar to Freeform. November or December. I don’t think it ever was in any of the beta builds, it just showed up on the App Store.
