Would an Android phone make an acceptable 5G modem?
Just playing around with the idea that I'd use an old phone as a 5g modem that I'd then attach to a regular router. Is this possible, smart/dumb?

pgetsos, Interested to see what others think, because I want to do the same. Even a new one is about half the price of a 5G capable router
Adrixan, I have been using my S22 Ultra as a Modem for quite some time now, works like a charm. Although I’m directly using the persobal hotspot. Attaching it to a router via USB would probably require just the right setup
kadu, In terms of performance, yes.
However, most Android phones do not handle being plugged in for long periods of time correctly. They absolutely ruin their own batteries in a few months.
What concerns me from your setup is getting the router to recognize the USB internet connection. You’ll probably need some specific dance with adaptors and luck under a full moon.
