@petertrek1@allstartrek Why do TV series, in their final season, feel the need to pair up two characters that have no chemistry together - and that spent the whole series together expressing zero romantic interest in each other?
I'll add Seven and Raffi. I saw them playing handsies at the end of whatever Picard episode that was, and thought "Where did that come from?!" Watched again a few months later, and I still don't know. They were barely aware of each other, became 'a thing' and broke up in the course of a single episode and the off season :^D
@lxskllr@sezduck@petertrek1@allstartrek I think they are taking a page out of the soap opera playbook: some people will be fans, others will be haters, but everyone will talk about it.
I will say this about the Worf/Troi thing—I didn't like it at the time, but when I saw Worf, Troi, and Riker interact in Picard 3, it made me at least appreciate knowing the backstory. (Which I guess could be said about the whole series, lol.)
Worf was my favorite characters in Picard 3, by far.
I love when, in DS9, after finding out that the O’Briens are expecting another baby, Worf says he’ll be away from the station when the due date arrives…
Which, of course, calls back to TNG: “Congratulations. You are fully dilated to ten centimeters. You may now give birth.” 😂
@sezduck@petertrek1@lxskllr@allstartrek Yes, always the dry, almost-straight-man in the comedy routines. And then in Picard 3, he put sort of a reverse spin on it—sort of like finding out Grandpa has taken up hot yoga and knows more about new bands than you.
I agree with you about the other pairs as well. It may be because in the final season, the writers/powers that be want to have some different romantic combinations which hasn't been done before. The fact that they did not show interest in each other before makes it harder to believe and to sell to the audience/fans.
I dunno, the Worf/Troi thing was set up believably imo. Worf was flung through a bunch of realities and saw one where he and Troi got together. It made him wonder if he'd been missing out so he decided to pursue her when he got back. That was season 7 IIRC. People can change and have new realizations right up until they die.
Seven and Chakotay though, yeah that was outta nowhere.
