@actuallyautistic I'm having a hard time with demand avoidance right now. I can just about being myself to do things from my to-do lists, but I just pull a blanket over my head when it comes to social stuff, ignoring people's calls and messages. Any tips from you guys on how to get out of that hole?

@lizzard @actuallyautistic Don't make long lists.Take care not to phrase what lists you do make as commands ("walk the dog") but instead in terms that might scratch an itch ("Get photos of snowy park. Take Rover.").

When it comes to actually knuckling down and doing stuff, use any dirty trick you can – "once it's done I don't have to worry about it again"; for manual tasks I put on my earbuds and try to just let my hands do it without me.

But: be kind to yourself. Don't push hard.

YMMV. 🤍

No advice I'm afraid. When I've been in that hole I've done things like taking prescription medicine from the doctor, or self medicating, just to drag this poor body onwards in doing its everyday duties. But all of those things lead to a crash, in my experience. I think what a lot of our poor bodies need is rest... just rest... deep rest... And total self-forgiveness and compassion. I know I'm saying the impossible... so all I can do is send you love ❤️❤️❤️

Ohh and... If you happen to have any access to nature any woods, or rivers, or beaches, anything like this. With a flask of coffee or tea. I wish I could come with you.

I'll second the importance of rest. And sleep. I spend my life too agitated to sleep.

Yes, hypervigilance and sleep aren't a great combo 😑

I wonder sometimes in other cultures where they are surrounded with other people sleeping in the room.. if that brings down the adrenaline levels in oneself. I bet there are studies ....hm

I'm really sorry I always just go off on one with my thoughts. I don't think it's much practical use to people.

Haha! I'm the onliest of onlys, have difficulty sleeping with /any/ motion in the room, and am currently typing this rather than sleep in a homeless shelter with a hundred bunks and a bunch of dudes wandering around coughing.
