What would a checklist assessment for autism look like if it was based on how autistic people experience ourselves? This research team did a study to find out.
It’s nicely done. Would be great to repeat with a more representative group of researchers, wider contemporary review of online writing by autistic people & some explicit attention to core concepts (esp ‘the autistic view’ 🙈).

I’ve done a few online quizzes, finished thinking that I probably was not autistic because of the number of low or middling answers I gave on a likert scale of 1-5, but came up as possibly/probably autistic. This alerted me to the fact of the broad spectrum of traits. But it was also challenging because being in my 60s made it hard to remember for questions about my childhood, & because I don’t know how extensive my masking has been & how much I have fooled myself.
It's messy innit. We desperately need exploratory research looking at the experience of late identified #AutisticElders & our families. There's so much we don't know. Until that initial qualitative exploratory research is done we won't know how we need to interrogate & define our concepts & what questions are useful to ask in survey studies 😞
