I’m curious as to how this works. Are the crickets for bait or chiken feed?

The paint and metal that flies around inside a tank when it takes a hit is called spalling.

Goodbye wrist.

I assume these all fire at once...?

I don’t think they do. There seems to be a hammer mechanism right above the trigger, by the looks of it.

I a punch-a you and shoot-a you and stab-a you cornuto!

athos77, (edited ) in Knuckleduster-revolver, Italian, 1870s AD

There's no safety, so you'd generally carry it on an empty chamber. It's also a bit hard to see on the original image, but there's a knife as well. The knife generally had dull sides and a sharp point, making it more of a stabbing weapon instead of a slicing one. You could use the knife on it's own, but it was more likely used in conjunction with the brass knuckles.

I'm having problems getting the embedded hyperlinked image for the knife to link properly, but you can see it here: https://one.nbstatic.fr/uploaded/20230613/10597042/thumbs/450h300f_00001_REVOLVER-COUP-DE-POING-POIGNARD-dit-APACHE-BREVETE-J.-DELEAXHE-ou-DELHAXHE---PISTOLET-SORTIE-DE-BAL.jpg

fiat_lux, (edited ) in The Oldest Known Written Complaint: Clay tablet written on by Nanni to Ea-nāṣir, Ur (Southern Iraq), circa 1750 BC

"Tell Ea-nasir: Nanni sends the following message:

When you came, you said to me as follows : “I will give Gimil-Sin (when he comes) fine quality copper ingots.” You left then but you did not do what you promised me. You put ingots which were not good before my messenger (Sit-Sin) and said: “If you want to take them, take them; if you do not want to take them, go away!”

What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt? I have sent as messengers gentlemen like ourselves to collect the bag with my money (deposited with you) but you have treated me with contempt by sending them back to me empty-handed several times, and that through enemy territory. Is there anyone among the merchants who trade with Telmun who has treated me in this way? You alone treat my messenger with contempt! On account of that one (trifling) mina of silver which I owe(?) you, you feel free to speak in such a way, while I have given to the palace on your behalf 1,080 pounds of copper, and umi-abum has likewise given 1,080 pounds of copper, apart from what we both have had written on a sealed tablet to be kept in the temple of Samas.

How have you treated me for that copper? You have withheld my money bag from me in enemy territory; it is now up to you to restore (my money) to me in full.

Take cognizance that (from now on) I will not accept here any copper from you that is not of fine quality. I shall (from now on) select and take the ingots individually in my own yard, and I shall exercise against you my right of rejection because you have treated me with contempt."

An old favourite.

ArtieShaw, in Roman-era silver bell brooch, found in the modern-day Netherlands?
@ArtieShaw@kbin.social avatar

It looks like it was found in Belgium. There was a late Roman fort in Kasteeldreef Oudenburg. There's a museum there now that displays some of the local finds, along with the history of the local abbey where the museum is located.

It's no worry, I assume it's generally people having a bad day if it's just a stray downvote or two. I'm glad you enjoy the content I share, though!
